asking you this now since you asked me, what's your Wake Up Sunshine ranking? 👀
oh ho HO I am precisely the perfect amount of high for this
Sleeping in 10/10 -> should have been the radio hit from this record, i said what i said. one of the catchiest songs ever written, I am so serious. It's so bright and happy and also, in addition to it, i love the fast chorus. The song honestly sounds like there's a blaze of happiness coming in on a summer day. and it's got some bangin lyrics too. additionally it is worth noting that it makes me remember the live stream of jack in those yellow pants. He was so hot. I'm losing the plot and need to move on.
Glitter and Crimson 10/10 -> this song really gets me because i am queer. I feel that this song accurately reflects how it feels to be gay in an unfriendly society (like maga america) and relate to it deeply, and I also think it tells a really compelling love story. Most of my main ships also fit into this too since i read/watch mainly historical queer works. Umm yeah i am so pleasantly surprised that two straight men got this experience so accurate! good for them A+ allies.
Safe 10/10 -> SO bright. perfect song to drive down the highway to with the windows rolled down and scream-sing. love alex and jack's BFF roadtrip song, have to have it. also the PUT THE CAR IN DRIVEE AND DON'T STOP RUNNIN TIL YOU'RE LONG GONE?? so pleasing to the ear. mmm yes.
Pretty Venom 9.5/10 -> mmm this song is so soft but not in a relaxed way. It's like a too-hot desert that's slowly stifling you, but you're too busy basking in the warmth to notice. it's a VERY specific emotion but i absolutely love how well it captures it. And it's a great interlude for the album. maybe it's like a moonlit night after a bright, beautiful day? like the interlude is the album sleeping and taking a nap.
Wake up sunshine 9.5/10 -> This song is about thomas lightwood and alastair carstairs, actually. But also SUCH A SWEET MESSAGE. i think this is one of ATL's best love songs (oooh, that would be a fun ranking list.) Yes yes yes. I love the are you living well in the background and
Trouble is... 9/10 -> I love love love the sound of this one and cannot give you an actual reason i do. but this song is a favourite.
Some Kind of Disaster 9/10 -> another song that I think would have been a great pick for the radio hit. I LOVE this song, i have a pillow on my bed with some of the lyrics on it. A day without this song is a day without... well. Sunshine
basement noise 9/10 -> great nostalgic vibe, love hearing about their friendship and their dreams coming true.
favorite place 9/10 -> satisfying and unique. love.
Clumsy 8.5/10 -> niceee lyrics. Also this song is so so good live. The album version is really good but it's like a 9.5/10 when live
january Gloom 8/10 -> i like it especially the ending
summer daze 8/10 -> great vocals good job to alex
Melancholy Kaleidoscope 9/10 -> This song would be higher on the list but a couple years ago i fucked up and blorboswatched this to a character (Ben) who now triggers me. So. But i really do like this song and listen to it regularly despite that character because THAT INTRO. JACK. it's so pretty sounding and impressive on the guitar.
Getaway Green 7/10 -> I don't mind it, but it never really connected with me. I actually used to find it somewhat grating but then I saw alex say 'puff puff pass, yall' in the thread about whether or not the song was about weed on reddit. Now all i can think of is Puff Puff Pass Alex and it's amusing enough to make me feel more positively toward the song.
Monsters 6/10 -> i'm going to get canceled for this but it's EASILY the weakest song on the record. It's also incredibly out of place. like, why is this rap-adjacent song in a quintessential pop punk album that's committed itself to a bright and hopeful sound? I do like it much better live (especially because no collabs), but the blackbear collab is okay tbh. I HATE the demi version and do not understand the point of it.
