#wulf reference

Clan Wulf:

The Wulf Clan mix mashed familes that share the traditions and the name of the Wulf. They were once scattered across Gyr Abania. The Wulves of the Peaks, The Wulves of the Fringes, The Wulves of the Lochs and so on. Although the recent few hundred cycles have seen the sprout of the Wulves of Coerthas, some of those who left the Lochs splitting from the Blackwulf bloodline over the rivalry of the First Blackwulf and his twin Icewulf.

(OOC: The Families each have their own quirks and traditions that branch off of the Clan’s traditions they make them unique from the other families of the Wulf Clan. This is a basic rough draft of the families, not all are fully fleshed out but a brief snippet of each at the very least is listed below! All are up to be changed and altered to fit the players of this sub-groups of the Wulves and the lore of their respective regions.) 

Wulves of The Lochs:

The now Blackwulf Family, the largest of the families thus far. Its members all though scattered to the wind, only three are known with its name with their attempts of revival is Aesir Blackwulf, her sister Aelin Stormwulf and their father the elusive and silver tongued Lord Blackwulf the second to take such name and title. After the majority of the warriors left to form their own family. Those with the tongues of silver, sharp witted, clever, pride and cunning. Politicians, merchants, diplomats and others of that sort are found from with family. Although promising warriors and leaders have also emerged from the Wulves of the Lochs.

Wulves of The Peaks:

Much like the Wulves of the Fringes there is little known about those who dwelled within the peaks, or if even are left alive. The founder of the Coerthas Wulves, the now fallen Icewulf spoke of their tendieces to attempt to train and ride griffons. Noting a handful of riders came from this family of the clan. If this was true or not only time will tell. All that is for certain is that the warriors of the Peaks that hailed from the Wulf family had a more organized and disciplined way of war then those that now hail from Coerthas.

Wulves of the Fringes:

Tomes of the living Wulves, speak little of this family. Although there is some information, such as the noting that their natural abilities as trackers, medicine makers, shamans were the most common of this family of the clan. The current Greatwulf was born to this family, although many question if he still breathes as he has not been seen in almost two cycles.

Wulves of Coerthas:

(This is simply a non-google doc copy of the traditions of the Wulf family and clan that both the Coerthas and Ala Mhigan born families follow. It is simply used as a reference for active members of the family to know about their clan. If they follow them or not is up to the character’s player. As once again it is just a reference to traditions of generations followed before the current.)

The Wulf Name

All Wulfs under the age of adulthood considered by the house (16) keep the house surname of “Wulf”. They are also commonly called “Pups” instead of their normal names by the elders and older members above them.

Upon reaching their sixteenth name day they are given a trial or test from the Clan Head or an elder with the Clan Head’s blessing. To where they are tested either for their strength, in combat, magic, crafting and so on. Upon passing they are no longer a Wulf or Pup but a full member of the house. An example would be the following:

Example: Hunter Wulf’s challenge was to use his skill in smithing to form a set of armor and weapons enough to impress Lord Direwulf. Having the armor taking to the Clan Head’s  at the times liking, he was passed and deemed Ironwulf for his skills in the forge.

Once passed the trial they are given a dagger of the house. A large dagger that has purpose for many things. Hunting, fighting, or even cooking in some cases. The blades are well forged and some even ornate. Each with the brand of Clan Wulf on the hilt, with the words etched into the blade such as “Ironwulf”  or “Redwulf” and so on.

Pack and Lone Wolf

It is not uncommon for the members of the clan to be overprotective as a wolf pack would be. Some have even gone far enough to refer to their family as a pack. The strong ties to family and a sense of protective nature of them is almost natural to the clan members. Whenever a member goes into battle, they are rarely alone.

 Yet there are times in the members lives where they gain a sense of wanderlust, and go out and explore the lands of Eorzea. They wander alone or with a select few, this was deemed the Lone Wulf phase of the members. Not all go into this phase and not all return from it.

Passing of a Wulf 

When a member of the  Wulf family  passes away, they are given a burial according to Wulf Tradition, unless they have it requested in their will to be buried otherwise. A normal burial for Clan would starts with the pray to god the fallen Wulf followed. Once the prayer is done the body is ignited on fire. The body of the fallen normally decorated in their finer attire of battle fit for a member of Clan Wulf. Their weapon of choice in their hands, eyes shut and normally the pyre is standing tall in the place they fell. If they had a wolf companion that had fallen with them in combat. They are burned with their fallen masters. The loyal hounds curled up in a peaceful ball at their owners feet. Covered in their armor of their own. Once the fire has died out, the ashes are gathered and placed into an urn. Marked with the symbols of Clan Wulf with the Wulfs named etched into it such as “The Icewulf of House Wulf.” The urn is then placed into a marked grave, along with their helmet and favored weapon. A practice to honor the dead with their weapons and armor of life, and a way to keep any foul magic users or even voidsent from using their beloved fallen’s bodies.

Honoring The Fallen

The Wulves of Coerthas or those who remained in Ala Mhigo, are  a house of warriors, therefor many of our blood and those we call sword brother or sister die in combat. To House Wulf it is an honor to die in combat, even more if it is a battle worthy of their name. Or to live a full life, spending their youth serving the house as a fighter and their older years spent teaching the future wolflings.

To die outside of either of these can be deemed less honorable pending on the circumstances of the death.The fallen are sacred to Clan Wulf. Be it of their own blood of brothers and sisters of battle. An easy to way to piss most Wulves off is mocking the dead. Little alone their own fallen.

Adoptive Members

Members who are adopted into the family  are treated and respected like any blood born Wulf. A member can be brought into the pack if approved by the serving Clan Head  who leads the pack. Normally they will adapt wulf into their last name. Or will be put through a modified version of the houses naming trial. Members are normally only brought through if they are close to the house itself and have proven themselves to be one of the pack. 

 An Example of an adopted Wulf’s name is the following: Io Saar, her Clan name as Wynterwulf’s adopted daughter is Io Saarwulf.

A Wulf Reborn

There are times where a Wulf’s name may be reused. Normally it is a descendant from that Wulf’s blood. They will undergo a trial similar to the one who bore the name before them, and when they eventually pass said trials. They are given the members old dagger, with a blade reforged a new. Granted the honor of carrying the name of a wulf before them.

Courtships and Marriage.

Members of the family  are allowed to court and date whoever they wish. But when it comes time for marriage, the house must see if they are worthy to join the Clan or be a fit mate for a mighty wulf.

They are given a trial similar to one a young pup is given, to test their metal, in either mental or physical battles. The Clan  is of hearty and prideful highlanders of Ishgard. In order to maintain their strong warrior ways they only allow those they deemed worthy into the family or to take the hand of another wulf into their own house.

Pack Hunts

This is more than a simple hunt. A Pack Hunt is a celebration for the family  itself. Honoring a worthy marriage, a wulf passing their trial or a grand victory over a praise worthy battle. The reasons vary.

The Clan will send hunters and warriors out into the lands they have chosen to have their celebration. The morning is spent hunting worthy prey to feast off of in the afternoon. Once the hunting is over the food is cooked, the drinks are brought out and the merry times fill the night until the last wulf falls down from drinking, eating and partying.
