The context for this one is Tango (from earth) has been thrown into a minecraft world by himself and gets to figure it out as he goes. It's technically set in my Welcome to Minecraft series, but that's incomplete and not my current focus. But this is him a few weeks in wandering across a savanna biome.
As Tango climbed up over the next hill he got a good view of the savanna laid out before him. It smoothed out quite flat for as far as he could see. It was still dotted with trees, but he could also see the distant glimmer of a river out near the horizon.
Not far from that rested what looked like a large boulder. It looked so out of place in the otherwise unbroken golden grass. But it was on his way to the river, so he'd worry about it when he got there.
And without the rolling hills to climb over, progress went much smoother than it had been. He still had to climb up or down the occasional block, but one at a time was far preferable to a whole hill.
By the time he made it to the same level as the boulder he was getting close enough to see it wasn't made of blocks like the rest of the world. Though it was big enough it could have been. The second thing he noticed was the smell of blood.
He jogged the rest of the way, pushing the tall grass aside.
Much larger than he'd expected. And sharper. The horns on its head, including the one on the nose that was usually short and square in the game, were all grown out long and deadly looking. There was blood on them too, but Tango suspected the smell to mostly be coming from the copious amount of arrows sticking out of the beasts hide.
"What on earth?" He muttered.
He took a quick look around, but didn't see anything obvious that would have been shooting at the ravager. And seeing as there was nothing he could do for it, he continued on towards the river.
"Gah!" He stumbled over at the abrupt shove he got to the back of his legs. He turned quickly and scrambled back to see what was apparently a baby ravager backing up.
It mooed at him squeakily and stamped its foot. Unlike the adult, thankfully, the baby's horns were small dull mounds on its head, the one on its nose looking like no more than a bony plate.
"Ah man." He muttered, staying on the ground where he'd been knocked. "Who did this to you, lil' guy?" He held out his hands, unarmed, not quite sure what else to do.
The ravager calf inched forward to sniff him, allowing Tango to get a better look. It appeared to be unharmed. Eventually it bumped into Tango's hand, and slowly, Tango was able to pet it, giving the little guy a scratch on top of the nose.
"Well." He kept his voice low, so as not to scare him. "There go my plans of boating down the river." The baby was much to large to fit in a boat bit itself, let alone leave any room for Tango to row.
"Let's find you some more ravagers." Tango, again slowly, cautiously got to his feet. And thankfully he wasn't head butted again. He started backing away towards the river, and the calf followed.
"Ok." He let his shoulders relax a little and began his walk again, this time with a 'little' friend along for the ride. And while travel was slower, at least it was no longer boring.
Turns out baby ravagers couldn't climb up a block on their own.
Also turns out Tango was not strong enough to lift, or even boost, a baby ravager up a block either. So he crafted some cobblestone slabs and made as close to a ramp as one could in a world like minecraft.
"Come on, little guy." Tango was stood behind the ravager, pushing to try and boost it and its little legs up the still rather significant step onto the first slab and then up again.
And after what felt like half an hour of pushing and demonstrating and eventually coaxing with handfuls of grass, Tango finally got his new traveling partner up a block.
But as he was tearing up the slabs to bring them along, the calf decided to show Tango it was fully capable of going down a block by itself.
Tango flopped down on the edge of the grass block that had been their barrier this whole time and gave a sighing laugh.
"Come ooooonnnn." He lamented. The calf came up to him and nudged him with his nose, mooing a little. "What'd you do that for? We had it."
Tango got up as he was nudged again and climbed up to the upper level again. This time he ran a few blocks away before turning back to watch. The calf bleated pitifully but did try to climb on its own. It made it up again and trotted happily up to Tango.
"Alright, forget the slab." He waved his hand and continued his walk to the river. Gathering resources was a bit of a pain. He still didn't have enough iron for a pick and caves were incredibly dangerous. So if he wanted anything stone that meant a lot of digging. And wood wasn't crazy plentiful out in these grass lands either.
But if it meant not wrestling with a 500 pound baby any longer, he would sacrifice a slab here and there.
