Lily Evans: Lily was Mary’s first friend at Hogwarts. Out of all of the Gryffindor girls, it is Lily who Mary has the most in common with, and she trusts her completely. Her other friendships were mostly made through Lily.
Dorcas Meadowes: Because the two are so different, they do not always get along, and initially Mary found Dorcas rather annoying. Over time, however, they grew to be very close.
Remus Lupin: Remus is Mary’s favorite Marauder. He seems to be the most sensible, and he is easiest to talk to. She finds the others a bit intimidating, at least at first.

Character Connections:
Marlene McKinnon: Marlene was the very first friend that Dorcas made on the train to Hogwarts. The two have been inseparable ever since. She trusts Marlene with every secret that she has and has always counted on her more than the others. When she needs a friend, it is always Marlene that she runs to. These two are often considered the tough girls of their group and it is this more than anything that makes them close.
Sirius Black: Dorcas and Sirius are nearly as close as she and Marlene. The two are very similar in many ways (loyalty, sense of humor, interest in Quidditch, dramatic tendencies, etc) and get along well. They like to pull pranks together and spend tons of time attempting to corrupt Lily and Mary. They are also the original #Jily shippers and always try to force their two friends together. Basically, they are the ultimate brotp!
Lily Evans: Dorcas becomes friends with Lily after a particularly rough Potions class results in her needing tutoring. The two clash at first but ultimately bond when Lily realizes that Dorcas’ teasing is all well-intended. Now, Dorcas enjoys convincing Lily that she needs to relax and pushing her to take risks. These often involve playing late-night games of Truth or Dare and sneaking out of the castle to purchase candy for Girl’s Nights.
Mary MacDonald: Mary and Dorcas are complete opposites of one another. They are the most likely to argue in the group, but are still very good friends. Out of all of the girls that Dorcas spends time with, she respects Mary’s opinion the most because she never lets emotions cloud her judgement. If she needs a strong dose of reality, she comes to Mary.
Remus Lupin: Remus and Dorcas are close friends, mostly due to Dorcas’ fascination with his ability to be both ‘exceedingly devious’ and a seemingly perfect student. She is also one of the only girls, the other being Lily, who is allowed to come along for Remus’ transformations. Her affinity for healing spells has come in quite handy for the both Remus and the other Marauders after some of his more violent moons. This keeps the two quite close and she trusts him implicitly, as he does her. At one point, she harbors intense feelings for Remus, but tries to overcome them when she realizes that he needs her more as a friend than a girlfriend.

Marlene: I know Erin’s connections for Marlene said that she and Sirius are pretty similar in character, so I feel like she and James would get along pretty well, too? I have some headcanons about Marlene and James growing up in the same Wizarding community, so by the time Hogwarts comes around, they already know each other pretty well.
Peter: Scar’s connection for this duo mentioned a hero-worship, and I feel like James would somewhat reciprocate that? Of course, they’d end up close enough that James would trust in Sirius’ decision to make Peter a secret-keeper, and James, would really make an effort to prove that even though Peter sometimes feels left out and feels as though he doesn’t quite fit in, James believes it’s quite the opposite. He wouldn’t be a Marauder if he wasn’t as valued as Sirius, Remus, or even himself.
Remus: James is fiercely protective of Remus. Like, fiercely. Their friendship is slow building, but fast forward to fifth year, and he knows Remus has a hard time dealing with The Prank (I gotta emphasise those capitals). They talk a lot more, and James knows Remus’ trust in him is definitely set - but from that moment on, James is, quite honestly, prepared to die for him. While he knew it before, that night is what sets it in stone.

Sirius: It takes Remus a long time to realize just how deep his feelings for Sirius run. But sometimes Sirius brings out a tenderness and a fierce protective urge in him that he’s never really felt before. The rest of the time, he kind of wants to bludgeon Sirius with the nearest blunt implement for being such an egotistical pillock (this is mostly a joke… probably). At the end of the day though, the trust between them is so enduring that in PoA, the second Remus sees Peter’s name on the Map, he knows. And nothing in the world could stop him from standing at Sirius’ side after that.
Peter: I feel like Peter & Remus must be close (partially as a result of how close James & Sirius are, but also because they’re more alike than they let on). Remus appreciates how Peter sometimes feels like an outsider, even amongst his own friends. The two of them are the quieter, more devious pair to Sirius & James’ dynamic duo. And in the end, Remus is the only one Peter doesn’t betray directly… their relationship is just really interesting to me.
Lily: Remus & Lily brotp is my jam! I adore that added scene in PoA on the bridge, where Remus talks about how Lily was there for him at a time when no one else was. Lily is the voice of reason amidst the madness of life with the Marauders and Remus values her opinion more highly than almost anyone else. Plus, I think it must be Lily who takes notes for him during his transformations and it’s Lily who teaches him that it’s alright to rely on another person, that it doesn’t make you weak or a burden.
James: For me, James is the mom friend. Maybe not so much before The Prank (yes, capitals are totally necessary) but after James saves Remus from slaughtering Snape that night, he becomes Remus’ rock a little bit. He’s the one Remus can rely on and trust to have his back, especially when things between him and Sirius are so strained cough spoilers.
