Wet Sand in An Hourglass: Now Available In Print!

It took long enough, but I did it! I wrote a book now currently available in print via Amazon.

It’s a book about womanhood and navigating sexuality, rife with reflections on Afro-Caribbean-American culture & heritage, candid recollections of intimacy with men, the ways parents indirectly damage us in our adolescence, and other stories. 

It’s the coming of age story I needed in high school, laid out in a collection of essays and poetry.

The first chapter (and sometimes more) is usually available for free via Amazon / B&N, etc. You can also check out some excerpts here.

I am super excited to also announce that 🗣NEXT WEEK on March 8th, I will be featured in the “Body As Object” Reading Series at KGB Bar & Lit Mag curated by @lunalunamagazine + @attheinkwell ✨😊

Thank you to everyone who came out last night to The Lit Exhibit! It was an amazing first experience! I am so grateful to have been able to share my work with friends and strangers alike. I had a lot of fun, met some new people, and I learnt a LOT. It was cute to see which sections were the most popular and interesting. I plan to host another installation of The Lit Exhibit soon, and I have TONS of ideas I can’t wait to bring to life...so be on the lookout for news about open submissions (yes!) & date announcements! Going through “Wet Sand in An Hourglass” and choosing favorite lines is tough, but it’s fun.

I settled on the template for the posters, which I’m designing and preparing to order. I’m actually really enjoying this phase in the process. What I’m doing now requires me to reread my book, go over the bits I’ve highlighted and make some critical decisions. I’m planning to showcase a few favorites alongside some bits I haven’t posted online before.

Hey everyone!

This Saturday Spotlight goes to Lana C. Marilyn -often stylized as lcm-  a super talented writer+poet+all around exploratory creator hailing from Brooklyn, NY. I’m personally hooked on her introspective (yet oftentimes thoroughly relatable) prose, some of which she has since spun into her book Wet Sand in An Hourglass: a self portrait in words.

Recently, Lana has also set into motion a self described "solo gallery of writing" dubbed Lit Exhibit NYC -- and yes, that just might be an #itsLit pun, lol. In her own words, the upcoming project "aims to engage audiences and communities with the literary arts through a showcasing of writing...along with several interactive installations." On that note, one of the best hubs to follow her work is the Lit Exhibit homepage, found here.

I’ve watch this work grow since it was just an idea by Lana. I have been following the development of Lana but known to me as Ciinnie from Tumblr. When the opportunity to review this work came along I jumped at the opportunity to review it. When I review books I have an ideal of what it will be but for this one I decided to go in full blind to stay strictly unbiased. The story is broken up through short snippets of her life through her eyes. Some of these snippets get very intimate and you get a rush of excitement of peeking through someone else’s eyes.
