OVERHEARD AT THE TERMINAL—ROUND TWO
Heard in the security line around 2am:
“Don’t check her bag. She's a fairy collector. You don't want to see what's in there.”
Who is she? Why don't they want to see what's in the bag? What kind of fairies does she collect?
You tell us. Tag #Overheard At The Terminal and #WriteblrSummerfest2025.
Your mystery question is here :)
💛Yellow: How does your character show others that they care about them?
💚Green: How is your character when it comes to working together? Are they a team player or are they difficult to work with?
💙Blue: How is your character when it comes to expressing and communicating their emotions?
I'll answer this for Doc, from Souls of Black! :)
💛Yellow: How does your character show others that they care about them?
If Doc cares about someone, he does his best to try and be in their life as much as possible, without crossing any boundaries or such. Doc will try to assist them in things they're doing, he'll remember and note important days and items to them, and he'll often say out loud just how grateful he is to have them in his life, since most look at Doc and scowl in disgust.
💚Green: How is your character when it comes to working together? Are they a team player or are they difficult to work with?
It depends. Doc likes doing things himself, since he's had to rely on himself for the better part of his existence. It's also subconsciously to prove he can do them, as he doesn't fully like his disability and the way people treat him for it. If people are kind to him, then he'll accept their help and work with them, but if people are rude or question him on everything, then he's not gonna enjoy them at all.
💙Blue: How is your character when it comes to expressing and communicating their emotions?
Doc struggles with it, because he hasn't had a lot of friends for any part of his life. But when he does have them, he tries his best to communicate things as swiftly as possible, to try and avoid misunderstandings that could turn into something far more dangerous. Because a misunderstanding such as that is the reason he has his scars in the first place 💔
#5 for WWW! :3
Hello hello, thank you for sending in this ask. I'm a tad late but I made it! :P I tried to be a little more thorough to make up for the tardiness.
5. Which character owns their own home?
If we're talking my fantasy wips:
The Fall of the Black Masks: Qays (Mila's father) proudly owns his large home in Belvatria. He worked really hard for it, and for his position as Royal Physician (though he prefers to work with the people rather than reserve his skills for the Emperor). Alas, he acquired these too late for Mila's mother to stick around.
In Return of the Exiled we learn that Ragnar owned a home in Vakkar that was destroyed by soldiers. It is, in fact, his hell-bent on revenge tragic origin story, as this event also links back to the unfortunate death murder of his wife.
Wielders of the Valk: Alev has a home passed down through his family, but ends up living at the castle because of his newfound duties as Royal Advisor. Everyone else in the story lives in their family homes (Lucius, Noctora, Lysia, etc.)
The Pirates of Sissa: Vadra, who was orphaned at a very young age, spent most of his years growing up in an empire-funded orphanage, and only received his parents' vast inheritance (house included) once he had completed basic military training, aged about 22.
The Black Hare: In this IF, depending on the route you choose, your player character's family could have lost their home as a result of the Black Hare's cons, effectively stripping you of your birthright, and now you live on borrowed land that once was yours.
If we're talking other wips:
Marie/Elise: In this little self-indulgent rich-people noblesse-oblige piece, everyone lives on estates passed down through generations. Old money, and all that. Adrian is the only one who's actually new to this; he used to live in a rented apartment with his father and brother before his father struck gold with his startup tech company. In between those two - the apartment and the mansion - there was a time spent in a place he would very much rather not go back to, ever again. Kind of a spoiler, will leave it at that.
Neon Vape: A Vaporwave Odyssey: Ramona Marx lives in a rented apartment, and it's a tiny one because it's in a prime location in the city and developers made shoebox apartments to jam as many people into their buildings and get as much $$$ out of it as possible. She longs for a house in the endless nature, but thinks she'll never get one because it's so wildly expensive now.
There are more stories, most of which are on hold at the moment, but this was a really fun way for me to revisit some of these! So many of them are in the final stretch, almost complete! And here I am building The Black Hare instead, haha!
If anyone's wondering, this is the ask game that we're referring to.
Five Lines Tag
Holy shit, I haven't done a writeblr tag game in so long. This is surreal.
I was tagged by @bluberimufim, you can read her response to the prompt here. I'm tagging @squarebracket-trickster, @rowancampbell-author, and @hyuccubus to carry the baton. Your prompts are: a line that describes emotion/a mental state; a line that builds suspense/tension; a line that you find funny; the very last line you wrote recently; and then any line of your choice!
The prompts given to me by the previous tagger are:
A line that physically describes a character:
The back door slides open once again, Lucretia stepping out of it with a taller woman following at her heels. A taller woman that, if I hadn't blinked, would have been identical to drapery on a wall. In fact, she is identical, to one specific drapery — the one in the orchestra. She is the spitting image of Lady Charlotte Howl, down to each loose hair and golden accessory and sharp eyelash. Each nerve in my body halts immediately.
A line of internal monologue:
"Let me tell you that monsterhood is not as terrible as it seems, provided you cope with it correctly. Feed only when you have to, kill your meals quietly and with mercy, and you'll be fine. The only reason it seems unbearable right now is because you've spent your time fighting your hunger. You have to cooperate with your desires. You have to cooperate with yourself. Because this is part of you now. It always has been, the day since you were turned." I stare. Stare and stare and stare into the backs of her eyes and past that, past the wall behind her, past the yard outside the house, past the city borders I can't see, past the horizon beyond. "No." I startle myself. Ms. Howl raises an eyebrow. "No?" My chest itches with the weight of the words: I cannot. Not should not, or would not, but I cannot. Under any circumstances. That's what I told myself this entire time. And I have to stick to it, one way or another. Maybe there is no conventional solution or simple reversal of what's infected me. Maybe there is nothing more than my pathetic, hapless wails of "no, I don't want to." And maybe, just maybe, stupid as it sounds, that's enough.
A line involving time:
Time fades, as does the world at some undefinable point during this hell. The last thing to run through my ears is the screech of my own stomach: a banshee's lullaby guiding me to sleep.
A line involving color:
"I'll be going now. How long do you want to keep this one for?" The red dims slightly, and I just barely crane my head in Florence's direction, in spite of my eyes's refusal to cooperate. "Not for too long, I hope. You didn't make it that far last time." I fix my gaze on him with every inch of my iron will and squeeze my eyes shut, as if to wring out the red. When I open them, the world has, at best, faded to a dull pink for as long as I can hold it. "One day." I straighten at the expense of my aching spine. "Come back after one day." His brows shoot up. "Hm. I spoke too soon. But, very well. A full twenty-four hours it is." When the door closes, the pink hardens into its original color, and in the hot tempest of my ever-consuming stomach, I pick myself up, staggering and sweaty, and hang tight to restraint. If I want to prove myself stronger than the hunger, if I want to win in this endless wrestle, I can't fall asleep to escape the pain. Head-on. I will face hell, head-on, in the most uncomfortable conditions possible, no matter what my body or instincts say. Or so help me God.
The last line of a chapter:
"Running away again, are we?"

Fellow writers who come up with wild and/or complicated as hell worldbuilding! Share some of your highlights!
I'll go first:
Two major systems of currency that dramatically increase and decrease in value across the continent in direct conjunction with which particular major country is closer;
Magical person-eating eels who have their own entire society underneath a particular city that never becomes relevant because they think everyone else is frustrating and terrible, who have exactly one (1) ambassador to interface with the outside world but who decided that everyone else was (still) frustrating and terrible and now works as an assassin for hire instead of doing that and just sends the occasional trade good back home with their stipend;
Pseudo-electricity that works by summoning spirits from outside of the world to come hang out in your batteries

wip trope bingo!!
yoinking my good friend @vacantgodling's open tag and filling out this wip trope bingo!!!! i know i've been tagged in this before and i'm so sorry i have fully forgotten who else tagged me because it was a while ago. but anyway.
rules: Download and fill out the prev writer's bingo card and then go to BingoBaker and create a bingo card with the tropes and elements of your own WIPs. Tag as many people as you like and see who can get a bingo!
i'm filling this out for two different wips: the moon holds its breath (which still needs a wip re-intro), and then the still unnamed fantasy wip borne from my dark crystal hyperfixation that i'm working out the details of and will introduce eventually
first: the moon holds its breath. also almost marked historical fiction since it takes place in the early 1990s, but thinking about that gave me a brief crisis so i put that aside. everything else applies here, in one way or another.
second: the dark crystal thing. uh. dw about it. simply do not worry about the two bingos here. (also cults may end up being part of this but as of right now they're not.)
and now... for my bingos! gonna make one for these two wips as well, lmao. first is for tmhib, the second is for the unnamed dark crystal-inspired thing.
i may have perhaps missed the point about it being a general tropes bingo and instead just made them a list of vibes and topics that are important somehow. or just me being silly.
also gonna leave this as an open tag, but if you fill out either of these PLEASE feel free to tag me so i can see :3 <33
