Writing Challenge
Write a page describing yourself from the perspective of a stranger in fifteen minutes or less.
You can include negative traits, but don’t turn this into a self-deprecation challenge. Find things you like about yourself and include them.
Go beyond physical, as well.
What does this stranger think when they see you?
Write about yourself like a food critic appreciating food
I’m country bumpkin with an underlying tone of hipster and an overlying tone of yaoi trash.
Today perfect body's in my feed don't will hurt me
I'm fine.
(You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness).
Look at you Why are you so insecure sometimes You are so beautiful Look at your eyes They're shaped like almonds because God knew you'd love them Your collar bones could hold a little bit of honey Sweet like you Look at your nose It has a ball like shape to it Just like your dads Look at your comfortable lips When you smile Everyone gets sunshine added to their day Look at you You're one of a kind

Let's talk about Character development
I want to see a character take teeny, tiny baby steps towards being a better person. I want to witness a characters decent into madness. I want a strong, badass main character to watch their world fall apart and reach a breaking point. To have to choose between what is right and what FEELS right. Because nothing is simple and sometimes it's doing the wrong thing, that feels right. I want an anxiety attack in the midst of the climax, for the character to completely fall apart at the seams. Mental health should be addressed and not simply glossed over. I want a character to rise from the ashes and become a villain. How else do they force the world/government/dictatorship to change? I want sidekicks that are more than comedic relief. I want back stories that make me weep/laugh/cackle/ angry. I want characters that are real! I want people of color/religion! I want main characters who are disabled and fantastic. Be that evil, good, chaotic. But most of all I want you. Yes you! Because you are the hero/villain of your own story and you can conquer. Write about your dreams, pets, memories. Show me your daydream universe. Grab my hand and scream "Run!" Jump directly into the action or ease into a slow burn romance. Make me fall in love with your mind. Make me hate you. Make me burn for you. You are the writer, you are anything you want to be. A werewolf, a witch, a student, a hacker, anything. Take me by the hand and show me. Drop me into the middle of a mystery or send me on a quest. Because without you, how can we, the readers, enter your world?
How to write your book Step 137
”Why I write”
Once, when I was at a creative writing course at university, I had an assignment that was to write a few pages on the topic “Why I write” At the time I thought it was pointless and annoying and something I didn’t need to think about or articulate or even write down. I wrote because that’s what I did. I never questioned it. I never thought about, I just wrote.
And then I free-wrote the assignment, it started off a bundle of confused excuses, and after a hand full of re-writes it was a personal anecdote filled, psycho-analysis of myself. Of my myself, at that age, at that time.
In the years since then, I question myself often. “Why I write” I rewrite and rewrite, sometimes just in my head, that paper on myself and my actions. It’s a great way to self reflect and asses your goals and achievements. It amazes me, how much it changes every time.
