The idea of not having to leave is almost enough to amuse Atieno ever so slightly.  There’s a hint of a grim smile in response before their gaze lowers back down to the table itself.

“Maybe not now. Maybe I don’t have to leave at this moment. But I’ve always got to go. I’ve always had to stay on the move alone and ..little breaks, little moments of being around people.“ They give a little bit of a knowing sigh.

     He should not have been so surprised by the puppy that dashed towards him to greet him. It was the very reason Chanyeol had asked him to come over in the first place.

     Kyungsoo had never had pets, even though his big brother had always been begging for their parents to buy a dog. His heart belonged to birds - the free sort, and not the miserable or amusing creatures people kept caged as their pets - and even though he loved most animals and felt protective of nature, the concept of puppies frolicking around and sharing a bed with their owners felt foreign to him.

     “Hello,” he told Chanyeol, his trusted and only friend from his  difficult high school years. “And... hello.” He nodded politely at the pup, who was obviously even more clueless about friendly human interaction than Kyungsoo was. It was staring at him with its round puppy eyes and wagging its tail so vigorously his butt was shaking, too. Kyungsoo squatted down to give his head a few clumsy pats.

      There had never been a need for unnecessary words when it came to hanging out with Chanyeol. It was often him who was in charge of talking, and pleasantly comfortable with Kyungsoo’s taciturn disposition.

There's a headband over his head with bloody eyes dancing around from their springs, and so far, their halloween custome hunt has been a great success (including all the detours it took to get here). “Oh?” Sorom had seen the book fall from a few feet back. She’d darted forward, clearing her throat to give her a bit more time to get the courage to speak up to him. “Excuse me! I think you dropped this,” she said, staring completely at the ground as she ran the last few feet of distance as she handed the book back to them. 

      alena pouts from where they’re sat by the large window staring outside longingly. rain was fun to play in, but chanyeol had advised against it. the nymph sort of understands. their gowns are expensive and pretty and alena wouldn’t want to ruin them, but. sitting still wasn’t part of nymphs’ vocabulary. nym was already getting restless. their shoes had been long abandoned as they willed the sky to close its dam. 

Atieno honestly didn't expect Chanyeol to feel so strongly as he .. at least apparently does towards them. They're so used to humans being intrigued for a moment before that intrigue turns to existential terror, or being like you can't really be here- you should go. Or just kind of taking them for granted - so they had kind of developed low expectations for humans in general when it comes to treating them any particular way.

So when spending time with Chanyeol - at least initially, they definitely enjoyed being close to him and how he seemed to be truly curious about the, But they were always thinking - 'how long before he wants me to go. I have to be prepared to leave.'

Do you even know what that was for, Chanyeol? Just because it has my name, doesn’t mean I need it and you destroyed something that was valuable to me. In fact, it is not. It’s father’s, and I hope you don’t hear the end of it when he knew that you touch what was his. ( — slowly walking forth in a taunting manner, his hands inside his pocket while leaning his head by his brother’s shoulder as if to let himself get immersed with the warmth that Chanyeol still upholds until now, despite being turned to a vampire. ) Maybe this time, father will disown you. Do you want that, Chanyeol?
