So, you’ve matched with a beautiful gem. She is attractive, funny, and sweet. You’ve been messaging back and forth, and now it’s time to meet in person. If there’s one thing that will turn a hot crush into “meh”, it’s a boring or awkward date. There are unlimited options to showcase your interest and creativity when planning a first date.  Keep in mind; you’re probably not the only man pining after her so be sure to impress her.

A first date should always be fun and exciting and something that you both have interest in. Since you have been communicating before a meeting, be sure to find out what she likes that way you can create a date that is super enjoyable and leaves a positive lasting impression. Activity dates are the best because it creates a fun atmosphere, lowers the pressure and creates a shared experience right off the bat. Guys, this isn’t the time to be basic. The goal of a first date is to get a second one. Don’t drop the ball and ruin this first impression opportunity by choosing a boring date!

Here are some dates NOT to suggest:

Dinner dates.

I find these are the worst date ideas ever. I understand somewhere along the line, someone decided this was the “norm” for a first date, but they’re wrong. I know it may seem sweet; however, it’s a recipe for disaster. It’s too much too soon! This is the job interview for no job setting.  I can guarantee at some point there will be the awkward silence. Sitting across from one another, staring at each other, forcing conversation while interviewing one another will turn that once shared spark into a mediocre at best impression. Save this for a 4th date onwards.

Coffee/Meet for a drink

This is everything that’s wrong with modern dating today. Coffee or “grabbing a drink” represents a lack of investment – and this is the issue! It’s unimaginative and much like the “dinner date” it relates to the job interview process where applicants are lined up on these dates like potential employees and allowing half an hour to ‘assess’ whether someone fits your dating standards. It doesn’t make a woman feel special!

Movies

This is the perfect date if you don’t want to learn a single thing about one another. It’s counterproductive. The movie might be great and one that you both wanted to see, but it will detract from the whole point of the date - for you to get to know each other, experience each other’s personalities and flirt!

At Home

This was cute in high school when there weren’t a ton of options available. However, as an adult, it demonstrates that you are not interested enough in her to think of something fun to do together. It is putting the littlest effort into her as you could!

A Wedding

Weddings are special events where people who love each other invite everyone else they love to share with them their commitment to one another. A wedding date is a nice gesture, and it’s a very romantic setting but save this for further along in the relationship. First dates can be awkward as it is, don’t escalate it and have your partner looking for the nearest escape route because you met the day before and you don't even know each other’s last name.

Out with Friends

There's no better way to tell her you feel "meh" about her. Instead, create some one on one time by planning a shared experience activity date and leave the bros at home. There’s many fish in the sea. You have one chance to make a great first date.
