Zusätzlich wird das Kollektiv im Spätsommer eine Reihe von Workshops anbieten, die sich u. a. mit dem Kompostieren beschäftigen. Seit 2017 ist eine wachsende Wurmpopulation Teil von Blockadia*Tiefsee. Sie wurde initialisiert durch den Workshop „Meeting at the Wormery“ von Angela Jerardi und Antonia Lotz auf Einladung von Susanne M Winterling in Offenbach am Main. Seitdem leben und vermehren sich die Würmer in Wurmkomposten, die von verschiedenen Gruppen in Workshops angelegt wurden, in Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg, Schwelm und Trondheim. Praktisch baut das Kollektiv Kompostierbehälter für Würmer und theoretisch befasst es sich mit Kompostieren als Möglichkeit, um Ressourcen, Beziehungen und Wertvorstellungen zu überdenken und als mögliche, erneuerbare Methode für die Produktion von Kunst. Zusammen mit Mikroben wandeln Würmer Essbares in Humus um. Es gibt beim Kompostieren keinen Abfall, sondern nur Ressourcen, die in Gemeinschaftsarbeit der zersetzenden Kraft von Archaeen, Bakterien und Pilzen und des Verdauungssystems der zahnlosen Würmer unter Bindung von Kohlendioxid in einen wertvollen Lebensraum für Pflanzen und andere Bodenlebewesen transformiert werden. Today, we made a Wormery! Or, three, actually - one per Bean! As part of our at home learning, we’ve been looking at life-cycles and the natural world. So, we decided to take a look at the life-cycle of an Earth Worm too and to make our own DIY wormeries so that we could study these amazing creatures in more detail. I set this up as a Tuff Tray activity with some printed fact sheets from @twinklresources / @twinklparents and a copy of the life-cycle so that we could discuss this and talk all about worms as we set to work, constructing our wormeries. Earth worms are one of the world's unsung heroes. They loosen and mix up the soil, break down and recycle decaying plant matter and fertilise the soil by bringing nutrients closer to the surface. Earth worms burrow through the soil creating channels that add oxygen to the soil and allow carbon dioxide to escape. The channels also allow rain to drain away. All of this helps contribute to a rich and fertile compost that helps other plants, flowers and vegetables grow to be strong and healthy. They are a vital part of the ecosystem. So, what do you need if you want to try making your own wormery too? Equipment needed: 1. A clear, plastic bottle (1.5 or 2L) 2. Safety scissors 3. Compost or soil or a mixture of both 4. Sharp sand 5. Some small stones/pebbles 6. A few worms per bottle 7. Water sprayer to dampen layers 8. Worm food – grated carrot, vegetable peelings, dead leaves, shredded newspaper 9. First mug of tea of the day!!!! Bring on the tea urn!! I m going to need it!! Minkymoomoo decided sleep is for losers at 3am!! Till 6.30 am!! I had to get the kids up for school at 7, AND take them myself today!! ( breakfast club!) so lots of black tea is needed!! It’s not as cold out there this morning - or is that because I m wearing a pair of very fetching riding socks up to my knees!
