Candy and I sat in the dull office of our wedding planner. The sounds of the clock ticking and Kimmi’s hands on the keyboard echoed through the room. Our old wedding planner quit after the second week claiming that we we’re moving to slow. I had no problem with it. It was her money lost not mine I just hired a new one. Kimmi on the other hand had all the right ideas. Anything Candy wanted she got it. She wanted the men to wear all a cream three piece tux with a black bow tie and for the women to wear a black ballroom gown. The tuxes and the gowns were all designed by Versace who is Candy’s favorite designer. Every single flower that was going to be in the garden is going to be cream. Most of the flowers are going to be cream garden roses. We were picking out styles of chairs and the lighting. Candy even wanted the roses to be dyed black at the reception.
“Ms. Monroe we’re leaving out a big part. Who is going to walk you down the aisle?” Kimmi said.
I looked over at Candy who was now playing with her hair. She looked up at the celling and bit her lip.
“Uh…um can you give me a minute?” Candy said getting out of her chair and walking out of the office.
I looked at Kimmi who looked a little scared. “Was it something I said?”
“Kind of..I’ll be right back.” I said getting up to find Candy.
I looked all over the small building but she wasn’t inside. I asked Kimmi’s assistant and she said she saw Candy walk out to the office. I went outside kind of happy that the pop’s weren’t out there but scared because I have no idea where Candy went. I tried calling her but there was no answer. I walked to the car but she wasn’t there. I was about to drive down the street to see if I could find her but that’s when I saw her sitting by the small pound that was behind the building. She was sitting on a bench with her legs crossed and her ray bands on. I let out a sigh of relief and walked over to sit by her.
“What’s wrong bae?” I said sitting down next to her. I looked at the foggy green pound infront of us.
“I was trying to get around the part of someone walking me down the aisle. It’s been in my mind ever since you purposed to me.” She said twisting the ring on her finger.
I know that in the back of her mind she wished her dad was still here to walk her down the aisle. And if I could I would bring him back just so he could. I would do anything to make her happy, but we all know I can’t bring her dad back… no one can.
“I want Shad to walk me down the aisle. He’s my brother even though we aren’t blood he’s been there for me since the beginning. I-I just haven’t spoken to him in a while Zari won’t let it happen.” She said leaning into me.
“If you want Shad to walk you down the aisle then he will.” I said looking down at her.
“You’re the best bae. I don’t know what I’ll do without you.” She said pecking my lips. “Let’s go back inside and finish this meeting.”
I followed her back inside and continued with the meeting.
On the way home we stopped to Shad’s condo to talk to him about walking Candy down the aisle. Candy was more excited than anything to see him. When we knocked at the door Zari’s annoying voice was the response.
“Who is it?” She said behind the door.
“Chris and Candy.” I said.
She opened the door and stuck her head out.
“He isn’t here.” She said slamming the door.
“This bitch just-“ Candy started.
Shad opened the door and let us in.
“What’s up bro and sis?” Shad said Candy instantly ran into his arms. It was like watching a movie when the brother and sister got separated when they were younger and somehow became reunited.
“I missed you.” Candy said.
“I missed you too.” He said hugging her back.
She let go of him so I could dap him up. It was like this kid moved all the way to fucking Antarctica or something but in reality he just lived 10 minutes away from us.
“What up man?” He said putting his hands in his pocket.
“No seriously we need to talk.” Candy said still giggling.
“Come on we can talk in the dining room.” He said walking to the dining room.
Candy sat down across from Shad and I sat next to her.
“Bae can you fix us a glass of water?” Shad said looking back a Zari.
For a little while I forgot she was here.
“Oh hell no! she might spit in it! Bottled water will be fine for us.” Candy said wide eyed. I laugh until it hurt. Zari just huffed and stumped out of the room.
“How do you put up with it?” I said under my breath.
“Not what we’re here for!” Candy yelled butting in.
“Why are you here?” Zari said sitting down at the table with a glass for Shad but no water for Candy and I.
“None of yours.” Candy said eyeing her. “Any way bro you know the wedding is coming soon and you’re my brother you’re the closest guy to me, you’ve know me for almost all my life. Being that my dad isn’t here to give me away… I was wondering if you would.” Candy said playing with her ring again.
“You know I will lil sis.” He said getting up and hugging her.
“Thanks bro!” Candy said beaming.
“No problem. I excited tho my lil sister is going to get married. Have you called your mom?”
“Yeah she would be here two weeks before the wedding, But we should get going your angry bird doesn’t look too happy I’ll text you everything tho.” Candy said walking to my side.
“Ok, let me walk you out.” Shad said smileing.
“Shut up you fucking angry bird lookin’ bitch.” Candy said hugging Shad yelling over his shoulder.
“Candy chill.” I said lowly.
“I don’t want angry bird at my wedding so please leave her in her cage on the wedding day.” Candy said to Shad.
“Shad say something she shouldn’t be talking to me like that.” Zari said standing behind him.
“Dude, fuck your opinion.” Was all Candy said before we walked out the door.
I feel sorry for my bro he is going to have to hear her go on about this all night.
