MEN & WOMEN, BEWARE OF NARCISSISTS IN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS!!!

I have my masters. I’m halfway to having my doctorate. Because I *don’t* have my license, I’m working an entry-level position as a glorified babysitter. I’m allowed to do nothing but what I’ve been trained and told to do.

Today I was given a serious dressing down by another doctor for doing my job as I’ve been taught (and told) to do it. Doesn’t matter how it happened or who was at fault. I’ve already signed on for a promotion that will have me working as a professional directly under this doctor, and they will now know me only as the ‘entry-level position’ who did something “inappropriate and unprofessional.”

I don’t know if a working relationship can come back from that. I don’t know if I’ll ever have her respect and confidence with regard to my own professional ability.

Let’s face it: dealing with a difficult coworker can be challenging. On any given day, you bump into a variety of office creatures. We’re talking about the early birds, the night owls, and, inevitably, the odd bird who seems to have mastered the art of turning a simple “good morning” into a complex negotiation. But fear not! While we can’t always choose our coworkers any more than we can choose…

Especially not when it came to someone who worked for the Order too. In the office they were, with a case file in his hand, but that wasn’t exactly what he was keen on discussing. As he approached Emmeline, there was an insistent glint in his eye that hopefully expressed the mild urgency he felt when he felt like he was talking in code, one to be decoded by someone he wasn’t sure even knew how to read him.

“You’re needed for this next case I’m working on,” he started. But instead of putting the file on her desk, he tilted his head up. “Are you free for lunch? I’m sure we can chat, if—if you’re not busy.”
