See, if as a writer I created a story where a social media giant pulled ideas from old factory towns and built an entire town on the idea that it was for people who worked there to live and work and shop in a fully contained microcosm, I would be called “too on the nose” and told that it would “never happen because that would be insane” and the book wouldn’t sell.
Yet every so often something happens that reminds me that a lot of dystopian scifi was merely just a commentary on the contemporary social culture but set in the future.
I mean…
