Logo-Process
As you can see these are my initial sketches after coming up with a name for my festival that I liked. I started off simple by taking only one letter e.g. the A and M and drawing out designs that could be standalone logos, what I liked about the first few was that they were simple, clean and sharp.
Since the name of my festival is ‘MAKE,’ it got me thinking of shapes and building blocks because you use them to create and build something new, so I wanted to use shapes within my logo to show how I created this logo, which is what I want the people that come to my festival to do, make something themselves and know the process it takes to achieve the results. I also wanted to make it look fun but simple because the audience I am trying to cater to are kids, families and students, so I had it in my mind to create a logo that will be vibrant and easily remembered.
After drawing up some initial sketches, I went on to Adobe illustrator to further develop my designs, again I stated off simple, first drawing up the letter M but after seeing it digitally it didn’t look right to me, it looked too plain for a creative festival. Next, I experimented with shapes and making a kind of pattern.
So, I went back to trying to make words out of shapes, which I really liked because it had more depth and felt right for the concept of my festival, I tried both with solid colour and outline and I have to say I liked the outline ones more because you could see how the letter was made.
I further developed my type logo by adding a few colours that complement each other when overlaid, even though I liked this logo its still a bit complicated and I felt like it would cause me complications later when creating my brand guild lines because it has so many colours. So what I did was look back at some earlier ideas and tried to develop them further and I came to a logo design that I like, which is the triangles at the bottom.
So, I finally came to like one of the logos I made, and I also chose colours that I liked and complemented each other really well and the further developments that I made was just finding the right font to go with the logo, but I also made the logo a bit simpler by overlaying and sizing down the triangles.
At this point I had a tutorial section with my tutor, and as we both discussed about my work we both came to a conclusion that the logo that I originally decided to move forward with wasn’t really suited for the target audience I had in mind and it didn’t really have the fun, playful feeling that it should of had. So, after looking back on some previous logo designs, I decided to redevelop and take further my type logos that used shapes to create the letters and that is because those designs seemed more creative and crafted.
As you can see I also challenged myself by keeping to one shape, the triangle and to be honest at first it was quite hard to make some of the letters out of triangles and still be able to tell what letter it is, for example the K and E.
Next, I tried making the letters out the originally logo but the spacing was kind of tricky to get right, but in the end, I chose to move forward with third design because I felt it was playful and I feel like it matched my audience better.
Here I further developed my logo by adding colours and trying it out with my previous logo, but unfortunately it didn’t look good with the previous logo, it seemed out of place, so I stopped moving forward with this idea completely.
Here I further developed my logo by adding colours and trying it out with my previous logo, but unfortunately it didn’t look good with the previous logo, it seemed out of place, so I stopped moving forward with this idea completely.
For the new logo I chose to go with primary colours but also vibrant playful colours. I chose the following colours because:
Red = it is bold and eye-catching and the colour of desire, perfect for wanting the attention of my audience.
Yellow = it is radiant from a distance and communicates cheerfulness, friendliness, joy and energy.
Green = represents nature and the environment.
Blue = it is calming and harmonious.
Here I was just experimenting and showing a variety of ways that the logo could look like, the one I like the most is the second one because it is the most varied and full of fun, and the parts of the shapes that have colour are placed differently and not all in one position.
I created my own typeface and all the letters are capitalised, the spacing for them all are the same. Unfortunate some of the letters are hard to make out and also, I think this sort of typeface only really works with my text logo, but if I was to use it for any body text, it would be really hard to read, so I don’t think I will be using this moving forward.

Ideas
From the mind map I picked out four concepts that I liked the sound of and was interested in to look into a bit further.
Next, I narrowed it down to two, which was a Light Festival and an Art & Music Festival. This is the list I followed while think more in depth into the two concepts
what is the festival about? - the theme
who will be there? - the line up
where it will take place? - needs to be a real place
Mind Map
As you can see on the right this mind map that I made has a verity of concepts that I wanted to possibly explore for this new module.
Doing a mind helped me start think about all the different types of festivals that I would be interested in looking further into. The mind map method helps as well is because when you write down one idea, other ideas branch off that first idea.
