“Connor, to your left,” Carter mumbled from behind his drink. Connor growled in annoyance.

“I know, you fucking idiot. I can smell her.”

“Right, sorry.”

Connor abruptly got out of his seat and left the pack to themselves, making his way over to the new girl.

“Where are you from?” He stood at the table she sat herself at, her nose in a book.

“Cali,” she said blandly, taking a sip of her drink.

“Water? Seriously? Can’t you handle anything stronger?”

“I wanted scotch, but you assholes don’t have that shit here, now, do you?” Her eyes left the pages to stare at him. Her eyes surprised him - they were the same as his. He laughed at her remark.

“Mind if I sit?” He gestured to the seat across from her. She waved her hand, inviting him to take a seat. He slid into the booth and slumped back in the wooden chair. He sighed heavily to get her attention back from her book and smiled. “I’m Connor.”

“Yeah. Do you tell everyone your name? Or am I special?” She asked, licking her lips. Connor watched her. He was intrigued by her. He could feel himself growing fond of her.

“Not everyone. But they learn my name quickly if I don’t tell them myself. And yes, you are special,” he smirked. She wasn’t pleased. She dropped her book onto the table after placing the bookmark in its place and glared at him from across the table.

“Do you think I need fucking protection or something, Connor?” She growled, her voice turning him on, and a shiver went down his spine.

“Not one bit,” he laughed. “Clearly, you can take care of yourself. You drink strong drinks, you don’t let people bother you; you’re like me. I like that.” He talked with his shoulders, shrugging them occasionally. She still looked bored, rolling her eyes and tapping the top of the table impatiently. “Okay.” He leaned forward with his hands in his lap and smirked at her, his eyes gleaming. “Let’s grab something to eat. Feel like hunting?”
