Don Quixote (Miguel de Cervantes) -- The earliest known wind powered grain mills and water pumps were used by the Persians in A.D. 500-900 and by the Chinese in A.D. 1200. American colonists used windmills to grind grain, to pump water, and to cut wood at sawmills. This windmill is called 'Bockwindmühle Eimersleben' and was built in 1848, sold in 1863 for 3050 Taler and in workable condition until 1952. The 2nd pic shows its state in 1973. Reconstruction started in 1985, it is now a privately owned building but can be visited if interested. Nowadays we mostly only see 'newer windmills' or wind turbines to generate electricity. The Spanish Novel about Don Quixote de la Mancha, who fought windmills - thinking they were giants - was published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615 in then Habsburg Spain.
