Whatâs My Cybertronian Name?
Hey guys, Iâve decided Iâm going to play a little game on this blog, which will be open for anyone.
How this game will work is you send me a real name (Amy, Paul Beckett, Damian Bloodsworth, etc), and using etymology sites like Behind the Name, Iâll figure out what your cybertronian name would be based on the meaning of your name. If you want a specific personality/physical trait of yours to be presented in your name, you can send that in as well, and Iâll try to work it into the name.
Example:
Anon: WMCN for Jack Darby with mention of his black hair please
Me: The name Jack itself has a slang meaning for âManâ, while itâs root comes from John, which at itâs root means âYahweh/God is Graciousâ in Hebrew. The name Darby comes from Old Norse, as a alternate spelling of Derby, and means âDeer town/farmâÂ
So possible Cybertronian names for Jack Darby could be:
Black Grace, Graceman, Blackdeer, Gracedeer
There is a short feature about WMCN, Macalesterâs radio station, on the collegeâs website, so here are a few views going back through the years. Of course, not all the photos have info on them...
Top left: student Sherri Park, taken in 1966;
Center: students in t-shirts, likely from the late 1970s;
Bottom left: student Louie House (left) and announcer Loyal Ferril (right)
@m00nracer asked on Discord: WMCN Emily Kavanagh
The name Emily is the feminine version of Emil, which is from the Roman family name Aemilius, which is based on the Latin word aemulus, meaning âRivalâ.Â
Kavanagh is an anglicised version of the Irish/Gaelic name CaomhĂĄnach, which has a few different meanings that I can find. Starting off, it was the surname of a branch of the Mac Murchada dynasty of Kings of Leinster (so kudos to you). In the actual meaning of the name itself, Behind the Name lists it as meaning âStudent of Saint CaomhĂĄnâ, with the meaning of CaomhĂĄn being âBeautiful, gentle, kindâ. SurnameDB says the name means âBorn handsomeâ.
So possible cybertronian names for you include:
Aemilius, Aemilius Prime, Rival, Rivalking, Gentleking,Â

Ok I'm down, how about, Wayne Porter? For the Cybertronian Name
[ Whatâs My Cybertronian Name ]
The name Wayne originated as an occupational last name meaning âWagon makerâ. Porter is similar, the name meaning âDoorkeeperâ. Strictly using those words, you can get names like:
Doorkeeper, Wagonkeeper, Doormaker
or, using the theme of the names, you could get
Gatekeeper, Gatemaker.
Thanks for playing!

Word of the Hour REDUX
Nicole and I started Word of the Hour REDUX to fill a void we felt upon leaving our beloved Macalester radio station and show behind. Â While maybe one day the dream will be to have a show back on the WMCN airways as community members, weâve cobbled together another solution in the meantime. Â Click below for an 8tracks version of the shows weâve recorded transnationally thus far. Â Expect about an hour of tunes intermixed with our commentary. Â Enjoy!
