I wanted to talk about my past weekend in Cleveland. I attended the Weapons of Mass Creation Fest 6 presented by Go Media. This was the first one I attended because I never heard of it before this year. My buddy Jordan Wong who works for Go Media, also originally from Pittsburgh, told me about this event. This conference was amazing and consisted of many different speakers, workshops, venders, and etc. It was also great for networking! I met sooo many awesome people from different cities and states that I wouldn't have met anywhere or anytime else. You should see all of the business cards I have now! The two workshops I attended were very informative. The one I attended on Saturday was called 'How to be a Girl Boss!' by Kat Hanratty. She's the Vice President of Apparel Design at Osh Kosh B’Gosh Kids & Baby. She talked about how to transition from being a designer to a design leader. Ways to make this transition were covered along with leadership development techniques, ways to be recognized now as a future leader, and communication do’s and don'ts. I learned a lot and feel very confident about having a future as a design leader someday. My dream is to work in at a designer at a major corporate company, and eventually in a leadership position. The other workshop I attended was called is 'Networking a New Way' by Wesley Hoffman. I got a new perspective on networking, IRL and via social media, tips on how to get out into the world and meet new people, the art of conversation, investing in relationships, and expanding my network. He does this talks often. You can check him out at www.treehousenetworkshop.com. All in all I had great experiences from WMC Fest 6.
