Tbh I do believe that "Roman has rationalized a belief in having a special connection with his dad due to being physically abused the most as a kid" and "Kendall/Shiv experienced their own more covert and insidious psychological violence as well that's harder for Roman to accept and acknowledge" can coexist.

Thinking about how Kenrome and Kenshiv both mirror very different parts of Kenlogan, with Roman sharing Kendall's want to submit and be violently cared for and Shiv sharing the repulsion to that very thing and the want to fight back and be on top.
Still thinking about how demented "Dinners For Winners" is, with Logan making his teenage son's best friend participate in humiliating him and treating him like an NRP, probably making little comments throughout that range from demeaning at best to blatant sexual harassment at worst but of course it doesn't count because he's Just Kidding, "it's a game, Stewart, play along." And in the back of Stewy's head he's gotta be wondering not only what awful shit's going on that he doesn't know about but if Kendall would let his dad do this to him if their roles were reversed.

TW INCEST CSA -- Tangentially related to your last post, but it made me think about why I started seeing kendall as being SA'd by logan and I remember how it really hit me in the s1 finale, like the fact they had this dynamic of "there is this secret and it will be just between us and it will allow me to control you because if anyone finds out, your reputation will be ruined" and the way kendall 'caved in' to that (and behaved around logan subsequently as well) made me feel like there are very interesting layers here
Oh definitely, the double meanings are very thick there to me. The way that his agency is stripped down to that of a scared small child being coached on what to say, juxtaposed with him repeatedly being referred to as a sex object by multiple people and going all NIN "help me get away from myself" at the Vaulter party. And everyone asking him "what's going on with you and Dad" and being both jealous and disturbed by their closeness, it's like. The waiter really isn't the only thing being hidden.
Currently thinking on the hypothetical Kenlogan Off To The Races fanvid, and my idea for lines like "with every beat of his cocaine heart" and the overall gambling motif is that this could be framed along with how Kendall's addiction relates to his relationship with Logan, his need for something to have power over him and drowning in excess and his golden cage.
CSA Warning – Just wanted to add to the earlier posts and say the S1 finale also gave me a disquieted vibe. There’s something inherently disturbing about the Kendall-Logan relationship that I haven’t been able to define but CSA works for me and how I read the show to add another layer to the subtext and adds additional dimension to both the way Kendall was groomed from childhood onwards and to his use of the cruise victims as a proxy for his battle with Logan.
That being said, I do wonder how Logan views and understands his abusive actions towards Kendall both now and in childhood. Logan obviously doesn’t see himself as abusive generally – he loves his kids and because he loves them he believes he’s toughening them up, or playing a game, or teaching them lessons. We’ve already seen the way he immediately rewrites acts of violence (“I hardly touched him” on hitting Iverson at Thanksgiving; “Did I even make contact?” to Roman in the car after Argestes). Do you think it’s just the same here? I know we focus on the kids, in this case Kendall, a lot when talking about CSA implications but I’m fascinated by how Logan may be able to compartmentalize or process SAing his kid. How do you think he thinks about it and justifies it?
Oh yeah, I've turned it over in my head many times and I think there's a lot of different dimensions going into it. I made a post the other day that I think sums up what I see as Logan's thought process fairly well though, so I'll probably just copy and paste those paragraphs.
"So I guess the core of it is, I see Logan as being very fucked up in his views about sex and power and bodies and masculinity and "might makes right" and so on. And it's all deeply rooted in a combination of the violence he experienced as a child, seeing his own children as his property or extensions of himself, and the culture and actions he's had to become jaded and tolerant to in his line of business. That is to say, family is business and business is fucking.
I think he definitely doesn't see himself as a deviant or pervert and would be furious at any kind of pathologizing him that way, but it's that very cognitive dissonance that allows him to rationalize the unspeakable acts he's done and see them as not Real or mattering. With Kendall specifically, my interpretation is that any sexual grooming that happened with him was closely entwined with his being groomed to take over Waystar, which functions as both a cover and a reward, but is also part of why he has so thoroughly dehumanized his son. And I don't think Logan consciously intended it in the beginning, but it was like a slow eroding of boundaries fueled by his need to assert the family hierarchy and possibly insecurity about Caroline becoming cold and hostile to him (because of his abuse of her as well), and also in his mind a way of controlling and containing the deviance he saw in Kendall so that he could still be grown into a tough ruthless alpha."
