We all know Elliot Page, Canada’s Trans Sweetheart, by now.  Whether we know him for his role in “Juno” (2007) or in Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy” (2019-) or something else somewhere in between, he’s been a hugely vocal member of the LGBTQ+ community since his first coming out in 2014.  

“Freeheld” is the true story of Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree.  Hester (played by Julianne Moore) is diagnosed with terminal cancer and her and Andree (Elliot Page) have to fight to have Hester’s pension benefits passed on to Andree as her domestic partner.  

This student presentation was interesting. To the uninitiated, pen testing is an authorised cyber attack on a computer system used to identify both weakness (vulnerabilities) and strengths of a system. Doing tests like this facilitate accurate risk assessments.

Testing helps companies find where data breaches could occur or how ransomware could be installed. Finding where attacks can occur can be vital to protecting the company’s assets.

The steps of penetration testing include: 

Reconnaissance - scoping out the system and gathering intelligence

Planning - plan execution of attack on weaknesses found

Exploitation - use gathered intel to exploit any weaknesses found

Post exploitation - establish persistance

I kinda want to explore all the tools that are available, especially Kali Linux, but maybe after these next few due dates pass. 😅

Jami Clayton, a transgender woman, plays a transgender woman on the Netflix show Sense8. Her character Nomi is someone I see displaying a lot of strength, vulnerability, and sensuality. I think she embodies what it is to be woman. In the show, Claytons character is someone who did not have the support of her family. Even while "sick", her mother decides to keep her in a hospital which misgenders her. Her mother also refuses to call her Nomi and resorts to "Michael". She even goes to the length of wanting to have Nomi lobotomized "because there is something wrong" with her. With the help of her partner, Nomi is able to escape this situation. Jami as well as Nomi are fearless.

Hayley Kiyoko is an icon in my opinion. I remember seeing her on Disney channel and thinking "wow she makes me feel really gay", turns out she was gay, too! I didn't find out until three years ago when I stumbled across her music video "Curious". I was shocked, but not surprised. I definitely sensed something different about her that I liked. This video showed me a different side to her. A side where she expressed her sensuality and sexuality without filters.

The character Zoe Rivas from Degrassi is someone we see have a lot of personal growth during the show. Zoe starts off as the snobby star from the hit TV show West Drive. She is arrogant and stubborn and the actions she takes towards her fellow peers is not good. Her character is hard to like. Under all of these flaws we see that she is battling an internal struggle with her identity. She doesn't know who to be besides her character. She feels a lot of pressure to be someone she is not in order for the people around her to like her. Once Zoe resolves this issue with herself, she is able to discover not only herself, but her sexuality. In the end, we see her letting go of the relationship with her mother because her mother does not approve of the fact that Zoe is lesbian. Zoe, in the end, fights for love.
