prop for my halloween costume this year
a lil sick irl and also a sourthon so yea
I ended up making three custom wands as gifts--two of them made barely in time, as in ‘finished in the early morning the day of our flight’ barely in time.
For these I made my own air dry clay using this tutorial, BUT my first attempt failed and I spent a sleepless night frantically trying to get the burned glue and corn starch out of my mother’s pan. My second attempt succeeded but ALSO ended with stuff stuck to the pan, because I missed the very important instruction about only doing this recipe in a non-stick pot. Eish.
The clay worked well, though, and I had plenty for the three wands. For the first one I made (for my godson) I used a chopstick and a pen from the dollar store (with the big pearl at the end). The other two just used chopsticks with a bit of extra stick attached at the end to make them a couple of inches longer. The first wand was very easy and organic to sculpt--the others took a lot more messing around and I still wasn’t perfectly in love with them at the end. All of them were painted with lots of layers of brown, dark washed, dry brushed metallic paint, a *restrained* amount of glitter, and mod podge.
I also made custom boxes out of poster board, complete with a satin-lined hollow for the wand and labels with my own made-up wandmaker brand (this was my solution for avoiding direct references to a certain wizard franchise, plus it was more fun)

Wizarding World Wands
Pre-Pandemic, we normally hold a super fantastical annual Hogwarts Feast; a night of full authentic Wizarding World decorations, food, activities, and wand ceremony. I will post more about the various aspects of The Feast later, but today, let me show you some handmade wants. Here are some finished wands: Remember, the wand chooses the wizard!
I love making things that look great and are functional (as functional as a magical want can be, for a muggle at least) an out of inexpensive or household material that I already have. I like to keep sustainability in mind when possible. These wands begin as either small wooden dowels or wooden chopsticks, then covered in hot glue, beads, wire, ribbon, etc. Some of these were made by me, some with the Ravenclaw Prefect Ashton. Here are some naked ones:
Next, they are painted in various layers and colors. Here are some in the process of painting:
Finishing touches are done for final details, then they are clear coated so they will last a long time. I stain paper and make tags that only go on after the wizard or witch picks their wand. Here are the finished products from the very first Hogwarts Feast
The first year, I got chosen by my wand, which is more tidy than my freshly cut bangs:
I tried to answer the way Hugo would to find out what wand he could have, and:
That's actually sounds cool)
Also, to do this i made a new account and, well...
I always knew I'm a half Hufflepuff/half Ravenclaw person (too shy and too logical sometimes for my own sake)
Got one of those "Mystery Wand" packs that Walmart has cuz I figured, "why the fuck not?" (I was grabbing junk anywho...)
And-- UUUUUM!!!! Guess who I got?!:
💚💚YAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS💚💚💚
Eh, not obviously as good as the real deal replicas, (only paid $13) but I'm still riding on the high of, "Holy shit I got Severus Snape at super random chance!!!"
