okay, I'm watching the first episode of First Kill and it is cute, I will say that

I am, however, getting irritated by how many songs there are in the background, especially during scene transitions. (admittedly this may be because I use closed captioning and so it's very noticeable that a fair percentage of the text in any given scene is...background music)

also I think my irritation comes from: where are the normal background sounds??? birds chirping, lawn-mowing, school bell ringing, people chatting, or even just silence. or like, ambient music??

#the music makes it so that the jamming in the car scene #and the party scene #don't really feel any different from practically any other scene #I'm definitely not an expert on soundtracks #so this is just personal opinion on this one show:#music with lyrics should be used...not sparingly but carefully #with intent #idk I'm thinking of Breakfast Club of course #and more recently: Stranger Things #also honestly Station Eleven????#because the bulk of the music was ambient and SO GOOD #and when songs with lyrics came into play #it was done intentionally with the knowledge that this is a post-apocalyptic world #and so those songs HIT HARD #but that's an essay for another day #anyway anyway #u thought of specific songs and scenes when I mentioned Stranger Things and Breakfast Club #and that's what I mean

Holy fuck, did all the X-books to come out this week like, make a pact to be as uncomfortable as possible? Like, it was like a ticker tape parade of one unexpected KO after another.

X-Men: In this week’s issue, we’re going to tackle the issue of imperialism by siding firmly with the literal empire and framing the bad guys as unreasonable zealots whose problems we’ll fix at the end of the issue while acting like we’re doing them a favor instead of being the source of the problems in the first place, just so nobody ever loses sight of who the REAL bad guys here were, and lolol spoiler alert, it wasn’t the empire. Wtf wtf wtffffffff.

Excalibur: In this week’s issue, we’re going to tackle the issue of bodily autonomy and personal agency by having Betsy aggressively attempt to redirect every single one of Kwannon’s attempts to NOT have a particular conversation as the only thing that matters here is Betsy getting to apologize to a woman who wants absolutely NOTHING TO DO with this conversation that ultimately has nothing to do WITH HER because she’s not even the Kwannon that Betsy did anything to. Wtf wtf wtfffffff. Also, I’m really fed up with how they keep characterizing Julio as the belligerent aggressive trash talking asshole BUT only in the specific context of having everyone AROUND him talk down to him and about him for his behavior and attitude....especially because everyone around him just so happens to be Remy, Rogue and Pete Wisdom, aka the Unholy Trinity of Holy Shit These Are The Last People Who Need To Be Giving Anyone Shit About Trash-Talking Or Belligerence Ever What Are You Even Doing Excalibur, This Is A Fucking Terrible Look.

New Mutants: To be perfectly fucking honest I only have the slimmest grasp of what this whole issue was even about because that page from Josh to Rahne took me OUT and I am NOOOOOT happy about it, like.......I honestly thought Marvel was pretty committed to never referencing those events ever again, so to see them raised in the context of Rahne leaning on her history with Josh to ask him for a special favor with ZERO contextual awareness of what that history was and how in light of that this is so SUPREMELY not okay.....not to mention, how much time was then devoted to Dani comforting Rahne about her feelings about missing her son which okay one hundred percent valid for Rahne to be obsessed about and fixated on but the fact that it was DANI focusing on Rahne’s feelings here with zero acknowledgment of the fact that hey remember that time Dani became Josh’s legal guardian when he was disowned by his parents and how given everything that DID happen between Josh and Rahne way back then, the key ingredient missing from Dani and Rahne’s scenes was a certain lack of Dani going YOU DID WHAT? YOU WENT TO JOSH ABOUT THIS? YOU ASKED HIM FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION IN LIGHT OF YOUR HISTORY AND FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER HOLY SHIT RAHNE THIS IS NOT OKAY HE’S NOT YOUR EX HE WAS YOUR VICTIM, YOU WERE A TEACHER, HE WAS A TEENAGE STUDENT, THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO BE DOING RE: JOSH IS NOT HAVING CONTACT WITH HIM EVER, NOT HITTING HIM UP FOR SPECIAL FAVORS FOR OLD TIME’S SAKE. Wtf wtf wtfffff.

#the New Mutants one is sticking with me the most because I've like #deliberately focused on forgetting and moving past that storyline because it was a terrible fucking take on Rahne #and I know she does mean stuff to a lot of people who like her for other reasons and so its perfectly valid #for Rahne fans to not want that mess ever acknowledged again #BUT THEN TO BRING UP JOSH AND RAHNE'S HISTORY TOGETHER #with INTENT #but with zero attention paid as to what that history was and that that history was NOT OKAY and not remotely something that should #be being capitalized on for specific requests for help #no matter HOW valid Rahne's feelings about Tier are and they absolutely are #but bringing Josh into the picture and then on TOP of that having Dani in the picture but with ALSO no awareness paid to Dani and Josh's #connection and Dani's historically VERY NOT GOOD RAHNE take on Rahne's actions way back then....#ugh it was SO UNCOMFORTABLE WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS X-BOOKS WHY WOULD YOU GO THERE
