This is Samhain for me. Setting up an altar for those I love who have passed next to our dining room table at 2:30 in the morning. Planning a yummy meal to enjoy with my mom and boyfriend and our passed loved ones.
Don't let beautiful aesthetics and in depth rituals of tumblr or others scare you away from celebrating or make you feel like you can't do enough. Or don't have the tools to do enough.
My altar cloth is a black shirt I love covered in my cats hair. My candles are my own personal made candles just because that's what I love to do. You don't know how to make candles? Dollar store ones are perfectly fine. My candle "holders" are just little dishes we had in the cabinet because it's all I had.
My ritual was taking out old belongings (weddings rings of grandparents, a coozie my friend got me, a hand written fudge recipe from my great grandpa, a stone for my nature loving friend, a piano jewelry box my boyfriends great grandfather made, along with some others) and just remembering them. Placing the belongings on my old, cat hair covered shirt and lighting the candles and just being. And looking forward to eating a good meal with them tomorrow.
It doesn't have to be fancy guys. It doesn't have to be beautiful. Take out an old shirt. A couple pictures. Or just light a candle and feel their presence if that's all you got.
It's okay. Enjoy it how you can. It IS enough.
