"Vin!" Silas shouted, waving his friend down. The morning had just barely started, so it was good Vincent showed up as soon as Silas called.
Vin was his go-to for any odd jobs he needed done around here, especially if he had any electrical problems or needed something built or put together, or taken apart. Pretty much anything that didn't involve handling the animals.
Silas' sanctuary wasn't just home for animals, but also home for himself. He lived there on his family's property, but there was so much work to be done that even his two hands were never enough. That's why it helped so much to have friends who would show up to help him whenever he needed them, especially if he offered up money or something in return. "Hey man," Silas greeted, "thanks for showing up." Silas looked at the wooden fence at the edge of one of the animal habitats, which needed repairing in multiple sections because something came crashing through late last night.
"This one needs patching if you don't mind. I'll pay you good money if you help out." He offered Vincent his hand. "And if you stick around till later tonight, I'll get you something to eat; there's this famous steak and lobster place not too far from here that I think you'd love." It'd been months since he'd had steak; maybe it was about time he went out to eat for once. Not to mention Vincent had done so much for him that treating him was well deserved.
Silas started to walk towards one of his sheds to grab tools for him. He knew it would take all morning, so they'd better start now before any of Silas' animals needed him. "So how's everything going? You've seemed stressed lately," he said, knowing Vincent well enough by now to tell something's been bothering his friend lately, but never knowing how to ask what's wrong.
"Your...hmm... 'visitors' aren't keeping you up at night, are they?"
