Another book I read during the Yule #witchathon. The Bear and the Nightingale by @arden_katherine. It was very atmospheric and pagan. I could feel the deep winter in my bones while reading this. ❄ I found it had a lot of elements that I often find in folk tales. Also, the Russian spirits vs the Orthodox Church plot line was a good background. I love that the book doesn't try to make you as the reader choose a side. You are just very aware of the pros and cons of each. And Vasillia's village does an okay job of balancing both before the new priest comes. ⛄ Vasillia's growing up as a girl of power is very much the focus of the book but its shown a lot through her family and the country's politics as well as the above mentioned spiritual practices. It was an enjoyable read.
