WIP Tag game! How's about Zero Tolerance?
Okay, so this is a story idea that developed out of me walking into the middle of a discussion about two characters - Zaeed Massani and Kaidan Alenko - and my brain hitting the brakes HARD as it sort of exploded with an idea...
Idea: What if Kaidan and Zaeed meet prior to ME3 (or ME2, I suppose, if you have Zaeed on your Horizon team)? What if they met early, just after BAaT when Kaidan flees for the Terminus? What if shortly after they meet and part ways, Kaidan was picked up by Cerberus...?
It's mostly a bunch of ideas in a document, but here's a rough snippet from when they first meet...
Zaeed Massani was not a man to back down from a confrontation. He hadnât done it when Vido turned a gun on him âcause he didnât like Zaeedâs views on things, heâd be damned if heâd do it under any other circumstances. Hell, itâd only been two years since heâd pulled his head out of his arse to start rebuilding his reputation after that fiascoâŚ
âŚyet here he was, hands in the air as he faced off with some young git whose eyes were as big as Jesse's barrel, too scared or smug or just plain stupid to care that his life hung in the balance over the next few seconds.
Helluva way to start the morning, kid.
Kid.
Dark hair, soulful eyes. He reminded Zaeed of Jessieâs kid, the one she claimed was his. Â
He slammed the lid back tight on that box of memories, but a singular, gravelly whisper of a voice leaked out, taunting, Too late tâdo anything âbout that now.
He shook his head with a sharp jerk and lifted his hands higher where this kid could see them, grousing, âAll right with you if I put my pants on? Itâs fucking freezing in here.â
The kid stood very still, unnaturally so. Quiet and observant, he kept both his eyes and his weapon locked on Zaeed. Still, there was a second â just a fraction of one, really â where something flickered behind his eyes. Zaeed wasn't one of those fanciful thinkers whose bleeding hearts got them into more trouble than not, but a moment after, the kid lowered his weapon.
Zaeed wrapped his surprise and his relief in a grunt. âThanks.â Wasnât much, but it was better than worrying if he was gonna bleed out before he got his goddamned fly zipped.
