Winx club Reboot poster Redraw + My opinions on the look of the reboot so far
I did this redraw mostly for fun, to see what my interpertations of the characters would look like together.
I’ve had a lot of thoughts of the Winx club reboot ever since the first images and concepts came out, and every time I see something new come out I get more worried.
I don’t feel like I need to say a lot about all the evidence of AI use. I don’t like the use of AI in creative work, and I think it’s a bad sogn that not only was it the art of the show but the writing too, which is kinda the most important part of a story. I can’t say anything new about the uses of AI in the reboot, but I agree with most of what has been said, so I’ll leave it at that.
Part 2: the art and designs
There are some things I like and some things I don’t like. In general I’m pretty okay with the winx’ civilian forms and casual outfits, which is what I’ll talk about here.
(There is an image in the bottom where the outfits are more clearly on display)
Bloom: I think the outfit matches her personality really well, but I don’t like the white mesh tshirt thing, it’s ugly and very outdated and I don’t think it fits her. I do really love her hair, I think it looks like fire and it looks pretty fluffy and just nice. Her face is also generally moce looking (except for some of those official arts) her shoes and pants are really good and I think they fit her really well.
Stella: I honestly really like it, I think it’s a really good spin on her original outfit. The only thing I don’t really like is the green soles on her shoes and the see-through socks sticking out, I just think it looks not that great. If they were one color, or had a different design I wouldn’t have a problem with them. Her pigtails and sunglasses are adorable and I love them
Flora: I do not like her design at all. The only thing I like is her shoes, I think they’re in characterr and pretty cute. But the dress and shirt are so outdated and I don’t think it fits her character at all. In the OG show, she has more of a cottagecore/natural looking style, with wrap tops, more muted colors (in comparison to the rest) and soft looking styles. The fake leather top with cheap looking flowers stuck on is just ugly and so not her. The dress also just looks like polyester from an american spring clothing line from 2014 (derogatory) Where’s the cotton?? Where’s the clothes that look like it was made from a literal flower?? I also don’t like the sculpting oh her hair all that much, but I’m not as mad about that.
Tecna: She honestly eats. It’s very cyperpunk, very cyborg. Her hair is nicely shaped and I like the purple on pink, the cunstruction of her matching set makes it really chic and cool looking. The collar is slightly strange, but I don’t think it’s out of character, so I don’t think it’s bad. The boots are cool too. All in all my fav design.
Musa: oh boy Musa. I don’t hate all of it, I like the shapes and ideas, but not the colors, ehich makes me kinda hate it. The use of her M logo twice is too much both times, I don’ like the cyan on gray, it doesn’t have eniugh contrast, and I think the red of the pants is too neon, making the design very unbalanced with the low contrast gray top. Her hair also got brighter and more blue/purple, rather than the original dark color with blue toned highlights. If they make it a character thing it could work, but it doesn’t look like a dye job, so I’m not sold on it. (It also feels like a small bit of whitewashing, since Musa’s eyes also aren’t as monolid shaped as her OG design, Flora also has this problem) I also don’t like her headphones changing from purple to pink, because it’s another case of MORE PINK in the reboot, it’s tireing.
Aisha/Layla: it seems she’s going to be called Aisha in the reboot, and that is also what I call her since it’s her OG italian name. Either way, I don’t hate her design. I think it looks well put together and well balanced and fits a sporty personality. That being said, I would have liked to see her in a more adventure type outfit, rather than athlesure, since she’s not a gymrat, she’s a dancer and explorer. Her hair is also bugging me, because it’s a bit too simple imo. It doesn’t have a propper understanding of how black hair looks in box braids like that and it doesn’t even have any of the wavy elements. Not to pat myself on my back, but I think that my idea of goddess braids would be a more interesting idea, since it’s both a braided style, and has waves in them. I really hope they still let her have some femininity and softness to her, since that’s actually a pretty important part of her character, both in show and in meta, because so few shows in the 2000’s portrayed black girls not just as a main character, but as soft and beautiful. But that’s a whole other thing to get into.
But these are just my thoughts on the matter, I would love to hear what other people think and continue to engage with the rest of the fandom.
