Merry Christmas! For today’s winter joy we have seasons greetings from some beloved characters, based off of Victorian Christmas cards.

The Hidden King was really fun to draw, and I wanted to show a softer side as he does his wintery duties and paints the frost onto a cottage nestled somewhere in Ljosland. This was heavily influenced by Jack Frost depictions.

There were a ton of ice skating postcards so I wanted to have Emily and Wendell do a cute winter activity together, once life calms down a bit and there are less assassination attempts. I think it’s an activity that they would both enjoy, even if Emily grumbles at first from being pulled away from her books. But even dryadologists need to exercise.

Lilja and Margret are making a snowman which is adorable and felt appropriate at the time. But I’ve had time to reflect and remembered that the Hidden King was resurrected using a snowman. I wonder if Ljosland has any taboos on making men from snow- or if they have holiday traditions encouraging the village children to make guards to ward against more sinister dangers. Either way I’d love to hear your thoughts about holiday traditions in Ljosland!

I Imagine him to be kind of a party boy and posting about the festivals he went to. But he also post pictures of his wife whenever he is allowed. He raves about beautiful landscapes he sees that are defenitly from the human realm and not in Faerie. And he shares his love for cozy beds with his followers. And of course his lovely cat.
