If he were being honest with himself, that was not at all what Tomix expected to hear when the door to his guest room creaked open.  He’d been expecting to hear a servant telling him to leave before Alexa was awake enough to argue with his removal, or perhaps a mumbled apology before a knife found itself jammed in between his ribs.  Part of that surely was paranoia, but...The Lord and Lady of the manor really didn’t seem to like the fact that he was in their home, even if only for a short while.

That asshole…Rune thought as he fought against his swimming vision. Or was that blood tainting his eyesight? That asshole managed to pull one over on him. He wasn’t expecting such an underhanded magic trick from a self-proclaimed magic hater. But he supposed that the jamming done to his magic was a saving grace as he didn’t feel the pain that, Rune was sure, was going to be irritating…irritating being an understatement.

He hadn’t really been doing anything, but Tomix still paused when he heard the faint snoring coming from his shoulder.  Alexa was still sitting next to him on her couch, slumped over his shoulders like she’d been for the past half hour, alternating between ruffling his hair and commenting on the book he was reading.  He supposed he should’ve noticed she’d fallen asleep when she stopped doing either, but it was a really good book....
