Hahn Air has released tickets on the blockchain
German airline Hahn Air said it was the first airline to issue tickets on the blockchain.
According to the company's press release, the sale of tickets on the blockchain was realized through cooperation with the decentralized blockchain platform Winding Tree. Winding Tree provides real-time information systems for a number of airlines, hotels and travel companies around the world.
Hahn Air sales Manager Frederick Nowotny, Winding Tree founder Maxim Izmailov and Winding Tree it Director Davide Montali were the first passengers to use tickets issued on the blockchain.
Novotny commented on the innovation and said the company's goal is to " explore and track the opportunities this technology provides for the travel industry, even if its widespread adoption is still only in the plans for the future."
In August, the UAE's national airline Etihad Airways teamed up with Winding Tree to improve internal information systems. The startup has also entered into agreements with numerous well-known airlines including Air Canada, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and subsidiaries Eurowings, Swiss Air, Swissport, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Air New Zealand.
