Our popular Firefox extension Windfox was updated some days ago. If you do not know Windfox, this is an extension that shows you the current wind conditions at your preferred location directly in your browser and alarms you when the wind speed exceeds a configurable threshold.

2009 was a year where we added many new features and additions to windfinder.com. In this year, we have added translations for Windfinder in 15 languages besides English and German: French, Spanish Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Indonesian, Greek, Korean, Danish, Tagalog and Finnish. During this year, we have made significant improvements to our Superforecast weather prediction model. We have added a high-resolution Superforecast for Egypt and also improved the accuracy of our Superforecasts for Europe. In addition to that, we have added Superforecast maps for North America.

We also updated our widgets and gadgets for many platforms, including a big new release of Windfox, our popular Firefox extension which has been downloaded more than 60000 times until now. The biggest release was the launch of the Windfinder iPhone app which was a huge success worldwide: the app became #1 weather app in 36 countries worldwide, including Germany, UK and Russia and was featured in "New and noteworthy" in the iTunes App Store.

Of course we also published a lot of event reports for different kite- and windsurfing tours, including the PKRA kitesurfing world tour, the PWA windsurfing world tour, the German windsurf cup and the German Kitesurf-Trophy. We also did a lot of interviews with popular wind- and kitesurfers. Since 2009, you can also follow us on Twitter and become a fan of windfinder.com on Facebook.

Our popular Firefox extension Windfox is released in a new version! We put a lot of effort in it to make this version the best Windfox ever. If you don't know what this is: Windfox is an extension for the browser Firefox which displays the current wind conditions at your local spot in real time in your status bar.

The new version introduces the fastest way to see the wind forecasts. Move your mouse over the Windfox area in your status bar and you will see both wind reports and current wind forecasts for your preferred spot.

In addition to that, we updated our wind alarm system. Windfox can notify you with a blinking icon in the status bar when the wind speed at your local surf- or kitespot exceeds a configurable threshold. Now you can also specify a wind range and the wind direction in which you want to be notified.

If you already have Windfox installed, go to "Extras" -> "Addons" -> "Extensions" in your Firefox browser and click the "Update" button on the bottom. If you don't have installed Windfox yet, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/3236 and never miss the wind again!

Besides the normal way of opening a browser and pointing it to www.windfinder.com, there are also other ways to stay in touch with the wind while you are at your computer. If you have Firefox running, you perhaps already know about our Firefox extension Windfox, but we also have so-called "Widgets" or "Gadgets" available for almost any computer platform there is.

With every widget, you can view the current wind speed and the wind forecast for the next days. It updates frequently, so you can be sure to never miss the wind again. The widgets also can alarm you when the wind speed extends beyond a certain configurable threshold.
