Jimmy Olsen (not yet named) made his first appearance in the anthology comic Action Comics 6, cover date November 1938. He was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. In the issue, Nick Williams went to the Daily Star and claimed he was the manager of Superman. For obvious reasons, Clark Kent (Superman) was not convinced by his claim, so Williams invited Kent to meet Superman. Olsen tipped Lois Lane off. Lois invited Kent to a nightclub, where they were serenaded with the newest hit "You're a Superman". During the song, Lois slipped a sleeping pill into Clark's drink so she could take his place. When Clark pretended to fall asleep, Lois met with Williams and the fake Superman. When she wasn't convinced by the fake Superman's rigged acts of strength, Williams threw her out a window. She was caught by the real Superman. Action Comics 4 was published with a cover date of September 1938. Superman still hadn't faced a super villain. He also obviously did not have X-ray vision yet. In this issue, Superman learned that a coach was going to hire ringers for an upcoming college football game and rough up the star player of the opposing team. So, he decided to go undercover and play for the opposing team. He stabbed the player he was going to impersonate with a needle to knock him out and abducted him. He then explained to him what he was doing and why, once the player came back to consciousness. When he picked the wrong locker in the locker room and it upset the person who owned it, Superman knocked him out. He obviously was unstoppable in the game, even when the opposing coach ordered him stabbed. When Superman thought the danger was over, he let the real player take back over in the second half, who promptly got knocked unconscious. It was also the last issue to feature the section with Detective Donald and Bobby. The anthology comic Action Comics published its 5th issue with a cover date of October 1938. In the Superman segment, Lois Lane was supposed to tell Clark Kent to travel to Valleyho to cover a dam break, but she sent him to the local hospital instead. When George Taylor, Editor-in-Chief of the Cleveland Ohio Daily Star, found out Clark missed the last train to Valleyho, he fired him. As Superman, he rushed to Valleyho. He protected the train Lois was on and later saved her from the flood. He eventually dammed the water from the dam break by pushing a mountain in the way. Lois and Superman kissed. When he returned, as Clark, he told Taylor that he had taken an airplane and made it to the story, so he got his job back. He chided Lois for deceiving him, but he said he still liked her. She responded, "Who cares! The spineless worm! I can hardly bear looking at him, after having been in the arms of a real he-man!" The anthology comic Action Comics 3 was published with a cover date of August 1938. While Superman was on the cover for the majority of the run, he did not appear on the covers from 2 to 6. Superman still hadn't met a super villain. In this issue, he caused a cave-in to trap the mine owner and his rich friends who were having a party there. He did this to punish the mine owner, who was running an unsafe mine and blamed a recent cave-in on the miners. Blakely, the mine owner, tried to activate the safety devices only to find they had rusted over. When Blakely learned his lesson, Superman tore down the barriers to let the rescue workers in. When Clark Kent interviewed Blakely later, he promised to treat his miners better.
