Why is it that whenever there’s an interracial ship in a fandom, despite the obvious romantic relationship the two characters have, the common thing you hear is “they’re such best friends” or “they’re platonic”. People are quick to downplay the romantic connection they have or ignore the close bond they share because they “just don’t see them as romantic”.
But if the white character in the relationship interacts with another white character, then everyone jumps on that ship and as per usual, that ship becomes more popular than the ship that was interracial.Â
Examples: Mako and Raleigh, Thena and Gilgamesh, Bonnie and Damon, Wil and Mareth and Harry and Uma.Â
Mako got side-lined and the fandom shipped Raleigh with Chuck. Bonnie gets side-lined and everyone shipped Damon with Elena. Mareth got side-lined for Wil/Amberle or Wil/Eretria. Uma got side-lined for Harry x Mal. Gilgamesh gets side-lined for Thena x Ikaris. See the pattern? I’m sick of it.
