LA POÊSSE - LA POEXE

myyyyy god i love la poexe!! breath of fresh air. fun weird music i wanna chew on. i too wish to make weird shit with my friends in between getting up to shenanigans.

EPIGONE - WILDERUN

lots of people try to blend metal with orchestral elements. lots of people do it in a way that is, not to put too fine a point on it, mega turbo cringe. i say this as a person whose introduction to metal was an intense phase as a diehard nightwish fan. i was in highschool ok leave me be.

anyways wilderun is somehow doing this without making mega turbo cringe. they all went to berkeley college of music together and thus their stuff is interesting and flows great. saw them on tour with swallow the sun my freshman yr of college and they play just as well live as in studio. the guy i went to that show with was not subtle about wanting to date me and i was completely oblivious but that’s another story. talented guys!

BIANCA - BIANCA

I am obviously someone who loves melodic death metal bands, it’s my favorite type of death metal and opeth is my favorite band of all time. I stumbled upon Wilderun not too long after discovering Opeth but i didn’t really listen to them much. Similarly to Caligula's Horse, it took me a little while to really realize how much i love them.

Wilderun only have 4 albums so far and I have to admit while I like all of them, this one is really the standout for me. It’s their second release, from 2015. Their debut was a super epic pirate metal focused album that took me a couple listens to really get into, and this one does still hold some of that pirate-y nature but not to the same extent. This one focuses more on atmosphere.

I love albums where the music makes you feel like you’re IN the album cover, and this one does it perfectly. The cover is beautiful and enticing. After the short intro track it takes you straight into the Ash Memory suite, which honestly is tied with The Garden of Fire (which comes after) as my favorite Wilderun song. I especially love part II of Ash Memory.

This album encapsulates Wilderun at their best. It’s atmospheric, cinematic, and adventurous. This band has a way of really uplifting me and i think that’s what they want to do. It’s what starkly contrasts them from Opeth: they don’t have sorrow. Wilderun feels like they want you to be on the adventure with them and I gladly will!!
