The way the crowd cheered on extra loudly when Harry got his medal... Equally as heartbreaking as wonderful.

Harry Meade and Wild Lone (GBR) on course at the WEG Cross Country. Photo via Equestrian Team GBR.
Shortly after finishing clear, Wild Lone collapsed and sadly died. Harry bravely attended a press conference after the event: "I would like to thank the organisers and the vets on site. The horse in no way suffered. He was a wonderful horse. He was so well within himself that I could have asked for a little bit more. He felt extremely comfortable."
From the look on his face and his pricked ears, itβs clear Wild Lone loved what he was doing and at least some of his last moments were spent happily galloping along the course. RIP x

So incredibly upset and devastated to hear of the death of Harry Mead's eventing horse Wild Lone, seen here competing at Badminton 2014 to come third overall. After representing Team GB today in the Cross Country section of the World Equestrian Games, Wild Lone collapsed shortly after finishing his run, and despite the best efforts from Harry, his team and the FEI staff to hand, Wild Lone could not be saved. Harry showed incredible courage and resilience competing at Badminton and WEG after returning to riding after he suffered severe injuries from a rotational fall, shattering both of his elbows and leaving doctors doubtful as to whether he would ever be able to ride again. Stay strong, Harry, and best of luck to the rest of the GB Eventing team for tomorrow's showjumping. Photography by Wildgoose Photography.
Sad to report Wild Lone passed away after a clear round at WEG "When Wild Lone was six I said he would be the best cross-country horse there ever was and I think he probably was" - Harry Meade

RIP Wild Lone, who died after his cross country round with Harry Meade at the Alltech World Equestrian Games.
My heart goes out to your rider and all of your connections.
