With winter weather hitting Colorado early this year, conditions for the the Fat Bike Worlds in Crested Butte could not have been better, and after a fantastic event in 2019, BikeFlights.com headed back to get all sorts of cold again. A few changes were made to this year’s schedule to better show off more of what Crested Butte has to offer.
Fat Bike Worlds didn’t waste any time getting everyone into the competitive spirit with races starting on the very first day of the event. Racers, competing either solo or as part of a duo, headed out for eight laps around the Fantasy Ranch course.
Our friends from Why Cycles made the trip over from Carbondale and crushed it. The combined power of their Brand Ambassador Adam and their owner, also named Adam, proved unbeatable. They finished first among the duo men for the day.
Friday’s schedule was more relaxed with a day of demoing bikes and still more riders arriving to pick up race packets. 2018 Fat Bike World Champion Ashley Carelock swung by our booth say hello and check on the conditions for racing Saturday.
The Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association spent all night grooming the race course for Saturday’s main championship race. They also had obviously spent more time building a bigger and better jump for this year. Conditions were almost perfect outside, not counting a bad windstorm that blew into town early on Saturday.
BikeFlights.com‘s West Coast Marketing Manager Colin Blanchard headed out course to cook up s’mores for and encourage racers as they battled the snow, cold and wind.
New for 2019, the Fat Bike Worlds weekend wrapped up with a Fat Bike Criterium around downtown Crested Butte.
And while Ashely did not defend her title on Saturday and instead finished in second place, she did take the win in Sunday’s Fat Bike Criterium.
All in all, it was another great event put on by Crested Butte. Even with the weather being on the cold side, everyone attending enjoyed the week of racing and riding, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
Had a nice climby test ride on this Ti @whycycles 27.5 x4.5” fat bike. It had nice shaped Ti tubes. This wheel size is pretty fun and the bike was impressively nimble. #fatbike #crestedbutte @cbfatbikeworlds #whycycles #titanium #fatbikeworlds https://www.instagram.com/p/BtFesIhlnMw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=43ipy37k9ows
