See, I don’t exactly know how to feel on this topic since I myself am not asexual or aromantic (on the contrary; I’m extremely bisexual). With me? I do think they belong to the community. Think about it; you grow up in a society that forces expectations on you to get into relationships or have sexual activities with other people because it’s the general norm of it. When you DO find out you have no desire for any of these kinds of things, it can probably take you a long time to accept these feelings. Society will shun and frown upon you, make you feel like you’re broken for not being attracted to these sort of things and maybe go as far to commit suicide because of it. There’s also correctional rape that can happen to ace people due to their non attraction to sexual intercourse if they’re repulsed by it. You don’t wanna feel broken by it, do you? When I first found out I was possibly bi curious, I was terrified out of my wits. I’ve seen what can happen to bisexual people out here in this world. You’re either seen as a sexual toy for threesomes, people who don’t exist, who are disloyal to their partners bc of their capable attraction to another gender (this one still fucks me up) like if you only think with your genitals. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by an LGBT heavy group that’s there for me yo. Imagine that same scenario for aro/ace pals.

Are their circumstances different? Absolutely. But the kinds of oppression the LGBT community faces are different too; this should not be a competition of seeing who’s the most oppressed. This isn’t meant to exclude any of my LGBT follower’s experiences at all either. We all face some sort of road block, and we have to be there for each other to over come it. Are there the stupid aro/ace people out there? Hell yeah man but this whole community is surrounded by people who make a lot of mistakes. There are lesbians who can be extremely biphobic to bi pals, gay dudes that are panphobic too, etc. The logical thing to do here is not let their voice be the only one heard and TEACH them their wrongs so they can do right. Will it always work? Unfortunately, it’s not always guaranteed; it IS worth a shot however.
