Women, stop wearing makeup, or at very least *consider* cutting way back. Take inspiration from the #TakeOffTheCorset movement of South Korea, or even #WhiteWednesday in Iran. Oppression isn’t going to disappear if we keep contributing to it. If we can all see that the beauty industry is sexism and integral to upholding gender and patriarchy, then it is evidently anti-feminist, plain and simple. There isn’t “freedom to choose” when there is cultural coercion, and no amount of disingenuous, tone-deaf, naive references to “mUh chOiCe”/“fEminiSiM iS aBOuT cHoiCe” is gonna change that status quo — only collective action will. If we want a world in which our daughters are free to choose, then we must end institutions that systematically deprive women of that freedom. * Gotta put the disclaimers before liberals infest these comments: If you really still want to and absolutely can’t part with the winged eyeliner, by all means, continue wearing it. I myself just gave myself a manicure last week, as much as I’d like to just quit “beauty” cold turkey. The world is complex and your choices don’t have to revolve around your politics if you really don’t want to. The first step to creating actual change is acknowledging that the system is messed up and we all contribute in some way. Even if you can’t bring yourself to fully divest, it’s better to think critically about the context of our “choices” rather than be a mindless consoomer parroting the “it’s empowering bc I say so! 🤓” mantra. Self-reflect. What are you contributing to? Do you think it’s really your choice, or societal influence? Why does it make you feel “empowered”? Do you think people “choose” their religion? Apply the same logic. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBhnK-eBWy7/?igshid=plv84ohpum2d
