At a very human speed, Tatiana and her two Malinoisโ jogged up the rocky slopes of Whispering Pines. They had been touring the rough and beautifully wild terrain for the better part of two hours and though Tatiana was sweating so heavily that she had to tie her running jacket around her waist leaving her in a sports crop and leggings, the two Malinoisโ looked as though they could have gone for another two hours.
Though Tatiana had been a runner while at school, she had spent little time working out during her extended working holiday in the UK, so returning to the US and taking up running again had been a challenge, both she and her dogs had enjoyed immensely.
The water bottle in her hand was half empty, and she was panting but Tatiana bent to give her dogs the first sip. When the two lapped at the water until the bottle was empty, Tati wasnโt even mad.
Despite the dehydration and aching muscles, Tati was grinning as she stood in the slight clearing and surveyed the view from her high spot in the Whispering Pines. All at once the world seemed quiet, and at peace and too beautiful for even her big brown eyes to fully appreciate.
โAll right killersโ she breathed, looking down at the militant protection dogs who were both holding onto the tiniest branch between them, and chewing contentedly. โYouโre not even looking at the view, youโre โโ
Tati stopped mid-sentence when both dogs suddenly dropped their joint stick and stood to greet whoever had interrupted their tug of war. Unbeknownst to Tatiana they were clearly not alone, but she trusted her highly trained dogs. The human raised a hand to keep the dogs in position, and she turned to face whoever it was that had joined them in the clearing.
