i will never get people saying the reason katara talks so much about her mother is that she didn’t get to grieve at the time and in fact it sounds a bit like an adultification to a point that she does not suffer in canon. people act as if her arc was about her “liberation” as if she were going through her mid life crisis and getting over her emotional repression and that’s just ridiculous. first of all an emotional repression of that degree takes years to develop and even longer for the emotions repressed to kick in and be present in everything, just like katara’s emotions are present in her entire personality, the way she acts like and the choices she makes and even the way she talks sometimes. katara does not 1) behave like an emotionally repressed person 2) have the time to be emotionally repressed and still be the way she is during canon. so consider this: her mother died when she was eight years old and she’s only fourteen by the time atla begins — meaning, it hasn’t even been a decade since, and katara acts like a grieving fourteen-year-old girl. so yes, katara talks about her mom more than sokka does and she’s very emotional about it and in general, not because she “wasn’t allowed to process her grief at the time by the immature and EVIL men in her household” but because she’s literally still grieving.
