the handler is interesting to explore from a political lens because she fundamentally is a victim of capitalism who, rather than rejecting it, perpetuates it. she’s highly comparable to the historical anti-communist secret police forces used to snuff out revolutionaries who aimed to dismantle capitalism (as I’ve explored her through the chilean lens before). she operates in secret leaving no trace or purposeful traces meant to instill fear into anyone aiming to reject capitalism or the demands of the elites. and she does this all despite being betrayed and belittled by soyona. she doesn’t turn her weapons on the masters. she doesn’t plot to get out on her own. her only attempt at escape is partnering with another member of the bourgeoisie, dodgson. the man directly responsible for her position and weapons. she, like the modern liberals and conservatives, does not seek to break the system. she is far too individualistic to ever fathom it. her goal is very simple in that she just wants to escape. like liberal feminists who want liberation for one sect of women (white middle class, primarily) without liberation for all women or LGB movement who abandon the unpalatable T to “win over” the ruling class.
