there's actually backstory to the little animal (lystrosaurus) kayla sells in the market. his name is leonard and, as shown in the extended scene with him, he is a BITER. which brings in this little grift kayla does. she sells him for cheap to unassuming buyers who don't anticipate such a small animal being so dangerous. so they panic and try to get rid of him and kayla gets leonard back having made a good profit off her bite-y boy. LEONARD WORLD DOMINATION!

it's kind of sad how they've been trying to explain to people that claire is the protagonist since the movie dropped and misogyny means that to this day, over a decade later, people cannot get over that male-centrism to accept it.

she sits in a very similar spot to sammy and brooklynn from jwcc imo. in that she does something complex by adult standards (like spying or being a bad friend) but people treat her like she isn't an actual child unable to properly understand her actions due to the basis of her being a girl (because, as any feminist knows, adultification of female children is rampant amongst society. girls are more likely to be denied childhood at all). maisie is either the youngest or one of the two youngest characters in all of jurassic. she is intended to be 9 in july 2018. the only child character even close to her is tim who is somewhere around 9 too. i wouldn't go as far as saying most misunderstood because i don't like power-scaling misogyny, but she's certainly one of the most prolific punching bags for the misogynistic side of the fandom
