Exclusive Interview // Tail Feather
Psychadelic blues band Tail Feather have been catching the eyes of the music press and it’s no small wonder their West Coast psychadelic 60s tinged sound is something to marvel at. Read on to learn their favourite mood boosting album and what inspires them to create their sound.
What are you up to at the moment?
The main aim of Tail Feather at the moment is to play as many festivals and shows as possible. We’ve just recently recorded our new double A-side ‘Alright, Alright Alright/Rain Dance’ at Fort studios in London, and our plan is to release the record in mid January 2016. There will also be a tour booked shortly after the release, and plenty of shows booked around the UK prior to it; including support to America's ‘Vetiver' at the Colston Hall on October 14th, and a TF headline show at The Shacklewell Arms on October 15th.
How would you describe the band’s sound?
As five song-writers; we tend to blend our influences into a large concoction of musical noise. With a huge respect for the bands who played and recorded live for most of their careers. Meaning that consequently ‘Tail Feather’s sound’ is a combination of the Blues own grit, soul’s desperation, and an ambiance that hails it’s course to the realms of psychedelia; with a constant, changing evolution.
What inspires the band - What is it that gets you creative?
Forcing the 'writing of a song' is possibly the worst way for us musicians to ‘get creative’. So we have found that the perfect formula for us is to wait for the right opportunity to arise, and then write a song about either ‘the scenario' or ‘the awakening' to fuel the spark; thus creating something honest that we can all connect to, because it's ALL about playing live and putting on a good show.
What song/album never fails to boost you out of a bad mood?
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
This album is undoubtedly the best of the best, and something that as a band we all agree on. It disregards any moods or any tension, and takes you upon a journey full of highs and lows - what more could you ask for?!
What advice would you give to someone trying to make it in music?
Always try to make sure that you are playing the music that you wished to create. The music industry as a whole is pretty relentless and cut throat, so you must prepare yourself for the stormy road ahead. It’s not all about making money, and it’s not all about the fame, it’s about playing the music that you love.
Eventually they will find you if you are loud enough - SO KEEP GOING! KEEP GOING! KEEP GOING!
