  As someone who recently attended our ‘Art, Craft and Design: Making Connections’ course at Leeds Art Gallery, I thought you wouldn’t mind me emailing you to see if you could possibly help out with something.

  I recently met with Antonia Ions who is a third year student, studying Visual Communication at Leeds College of Art. Antonia  is in the process of completing her final major project for her degree. As part of this she is keen to observe Art teaching in primary schools and to talk with teachers about how art and creativity support Children’s development.  Below is a little summary which outlines her interests and past experience. Ideally, she would like to visit a school more than once and observe different year groups. She is very willing to get involved and support activity and lead activity if this is appropriate. If you would be willing for Antonia to come into school can you let me know. Many thanks.

  I started my course interested in children's book illustration, but over the last two years I have become involved in community arts as an art facilitator. I have done a good few voluntary roles and placements, mainly with adults with mental health problems. Last year I focused my work a lot on using art to benefit mental health and wellbeing.

  This year I am focusing more on working with children, and how being creative is so important to a child's development, in and out of school. I am going to be part of a voluntary project that aids children's reading abilities but would really love to do work that has an art theme as this will be part of my final major project for my degree.

  I am flexible and available to work almost every day, minus a Tuesday as I have a voluntary placement that day. I am definitely in Leeds till the end of July, but would prefer to do most of my work in April and the beginning of May as my deadline for my final project is the 22nd of May.

I sent her an email and she then arranged to meet me at City of Leeds school and we had a chat about what I could do.

She seemed to think that just offering to turn up and do an event at a school would be a waste of time as there is a lot of red tape to go through. I said I was getting worried regarding the amount of time I have left before hand in. She then offered her opinion that actually getting in touch with a teacher who would allow me to help her art class or with an art project they were doing would be quick and easy. She actually offered to send out an email with a little bio and what I want to do to teachers and see who responds.
