Antonia gets a job!

After a successful interview I'm going to be a creative assistant at ArtBugs.

Here is a little about them:

We are a team of experienced and qualified professional artists and creative practitioners that have vast experience of working with children and young adults in a variety of educational and non educational settings. We are passionate about art and all things creative. We want to share our passion and knowledge and inspire our future generations by delivering inspirational and inventive art activities to children and young people that will nurture and inspire creativity.

Training for the Literacy Programme.

I  attended the training session on Tuesday 25th March 2014, 5.30-8.30pm. At Addleshaw Goddard Offices, Sovereign Street. Leeds City Centre LS1 1HQ. 

This was really great and I genuinely learned a lot. The training was delivered by myself and a local headteacher, Mrs Amanda Campbell, who has spent the majority of her career teaching at inner-city Leeds primary schools.

The session was informal, informative and interactive – no death by Powerpoint! It covered info on the literacy programme, reading strategies, how to share a book, checking for comprehension, child protection, health & safety and what happens next!

Light refreshments were also served so I was definitely happy.

My interview at Pyramid of arts.

When I got in touch to say I wanted to volunteer, at first they said that they don't actually accept third years as by experience they have learnt they are too busy. However, once I explained my circumstances and told them that this will actually go towards me work, rather then get in the way of me doing it, they said I could come for an interview.

I emailed Susie, but a lot of her art classes would be best visited after half term in May. They will be starting new projects and it will be easier for me to join in.

25th March.

Meeting Joy at the art gallery.

Joy emailed me to say that her Y5 art class are going to Leeds Art Gallery to see and appreciate their art. She said she would love for me to come along on the coach and join them for the art appreciation.

I was actually already in town so I met them at the art gallery.

They were there as they had finished a project for the gallery and had come along to talk about how it went. They were asked to come up with art that showed how they thought their souls would look.

It seemed pretty deep but they all seemed to have liked the work. They sat down with the lady who works in the gallery to deliver educational projects like this and talked about how they found the project.

After that we walked around the gallery and looked at all the art work. This was a good chance for me to talk to the students and get a feel for their view on art. They all seemed to love the big paintings and everyone always had an opinion so it was a fun tour!

I managed to speak to Joy a little and she has said I can come and help out with one of her art classes in the next few weeks.

Sarah had a response from two teachers who are really happy for me to work with them in school .

Sarah also gave me their email addresses and their telephone numbers so I can get in contact with them.

  I suggest you contact them as soon as possible to arrange a time to meet. They break up for Easter next Friday so it would be good to get arrangements in place before they disappear on holiday.

Nearly there with the lettering. I am a bit gutted as Marianne pointed out it would probably look and read better as cool down and slim down. Totally missing out the still.

I had already started the lettering in the second row when she saw this so it was impossible to change it.

I sent Tim an email asking him his preference on whether the picture was in colour or black and white. He responded with: sepia!

The finished window!

We realised we missed out a sign we had decided to make. I'm going to get a piece of cardboard and hand write a sign that says: This window is made from 85% recycled materials. What can you do to recycle?

We will try and reach through and put it in the front of the window!

Setting up the window day two.

When we got back to the window we found a lot f the houses had fallen down! This was because we had just used duct tape, so we decided t use the tape and then a staple gun to endue they would stay hanging.

We started by hanging the fallen houses and then grouping together and gluing the new houses we had laser cut. We decided not to paint these new house and decided they would look rather nice slotted in between the painted houses, and would take a lot less time to prepare.

Once we had glued the houses together we thread some fishing wire through the top and hung them from the ceiling. We managed to fill the spaces and although they were still spinning it looked rather full.

Next we headed to the front of the window and layer out the figures. We used glue to hold them in place. We spread the figures out, so there were people on bikes and people standing around all across the window.

We then created the two row of houses across the floor. We had them both gong back diagonally towards the centre to try and create a sense of depth to the piece.

Once we had finished at the front of the window we then began the time consuming task of threading fishing wire through the bottom of the groups of houses and attaching them to the floor, again, with tape and then the staple gun. Some groups were large so needed to pieces of wire at the bottom to stop them spinning.

We then headed to the front of the window, picked off the previous sticker and put our new one on there. It reads: Vis Com projects. Leeds college of Art.
