The woods are blanketed by a thin fog that occasionally let through the briefest glimpse of the full moon to break up the monotony of the night. There are hardly any animals out due to the cold weather, but those that were travelled in packs of two or three out of fear of what is to come.
In a clearing near the edge of the woods stand the Blood Hounds, gathered for their weekly pack run. They have chosen a great night to do so since the fog presents perfect cover from any potential predators that are out that night.
Izzy stands before the pack, Morgan to his right and Finn to his left. He looks out at all the anxious werewolves, waiting for him to give them the go ahead since he’s their alpha, and smiles. He waits a moment longer before stepping forward and addressing the gathered pack.
“It’s been almost a month since our last pack run and I am sorry about that. Things have been a little crazy lately, but there will be more effort to return to weekly pack runs, especially as the weather gets colder and harsher. Now, I know how anxious you all are to get running, but before I send you off I would like to remind you all to run in pairs, never alone.” Izzy pauses in his speech for breath before continuing on. “You can go now. Enjoy the night and the company of your pack brethren.”
The gathering cheers and breaks apart, the members separating off into groups of two or more.
Morgan leaves Izzy’s side to join Aubrey and Galaxy and Finn leaves to join Tex and Mel. As soon as they’re gone Storm approaches Izzy and places a hand on his shoulder before driving him towards an unoccupied piece of woods to change for the run.
Izzy and Storm exchange a look before stripping off their clothes and changing forms. A short distance away Calico and Dani change and an even shorter distance away Kori and Lovie change.
The rest of the pack on the other side of the clearing have changed and are already running through the forest. Soon enough they are joined by everyone else, including their alpha and his mate.
It’s nearing midnight and the fog begins to thicken, providing even more cover for the large pack of werewolves running throughout the woods.
Morgan, Aubrey, and Galaxy run alongside the river running through the middle of the woods, chasing after a colony of snow rabbits.
Morgan is in front, driving the rabbits farther down the river. Galaxy is behind him helping him to drive the rabbits. Aubrey is off to the side, far enough away that the rabbits have no idea he’s there or even that they’re being driven right towards him.
Aubrey stops at the agreed upon point and waits. Morgan and Galaxy gain speed, closing the distance between themselves, the rabbits, and Aubrey.
The two wolves, plus the colony of rabbits, come into Aubrey’s line of sight and the three wolves pounce, each grabbing two rabbits between their teeth. They shake the rabbits about a bit, breaking their necks in the process, before beginning to dig into their meal with pleasure. They make sure to leave any leftovers for the other pack members running in the direction of the river before moving on to the next hunt.
It’s nearing two in the morning and the fog begins to lighten up, returning to how it was when the night began.
Calico, Dani, Kori, and Lovie come upon another clearing farther into the woods, where Finn, Tex, and Mel are running around chasing and tackling each other to the ground. The four wolves join in on the fun, following after two of the others in chasing Mel around the perimeter of the clearing.
This goes on for some time, each wolf getting chased and tackled by the others, and eventually the eight wolves end up in a piled heap in the middle of the clearing, too tired to move, let alone hunt or chase each other anymore.
It’s near four and the fog has lifted completely, lighting the entire woods with the fading moonlight from the full moon.
Izzy and Storm enter the clearing, where the pack are waiting for them, from their original point of change. They approach the center of the pack, hands intertwined and smiles lighting up their faces. They stop and address the pack together, the alpha and his mate (or the alpha and the pack mother).
“Here’s to another successful pack run and many more weekly pack runs to come in the future.” Izzy and Storm say in unison, their voices joining to reach the ears of the entire pack.
The pack cheers and howls in general agreement with their alpha and pack mother.
“Now go get some sleep.” Storm adds with a laugh alongside her mate, her eyes a light with cheer and happiness for the first time in months.
The pack disperses and heads home to heed their pack mother’s advice, the prospect of weekly pack runs returning leaving an excited air surrounding them all.
