Avi was sure it would be... rude to think that his evening's meditations had been interrupted, particularly when one considered who was doing the "interrupting". He wasn't sure if the voice was spoken aloud or just in his head, but the suddenness of it had him snapping rigid with shock.
He listened quite attentively to the god-king's words, but felt his awe slowly beginning to wane. Make no mistake, Avi understood who he was speaking to. Lord Amun-Ra deserved his utmost respect out of principle alone... even if he disagreed with half of what he was just told.
The vigilante didn't believe the other deities were lesser, not Horus or Bastet or Ma'at or Khonshu. They all had their place, and he didn't WANT to give them up just because--... just because the king of his pantheon demanded it. After all these years, it felt like he'd be betraying them. And in exchange for what?
Being able to protect more people. Being able to protect everyone. What's the most you can do with your powers now, Avi? Maybe shield a dozen people if you get them all in one spot? You can barely make more than one barrier, let alone hold it long enough to be of any real help. How much more good could you do with the king of your gods behind you?
The venomous needling of his insecurities made him wince, shoulders hunching as he dropped his gaze to the scuffed wood of his altar. Don't be rash. Think. Ask questions. Avi drew a breath and let his eyes follow the trails of incense smoke upwards again.
Hypothetically... what would you ask of me if I agreed? My obedience, I assume, but what else?
