This Hotel is Mean to Me.
Very empty, I like it, but sometimes the ghosts in here tell me to drink the pool water and then laugh at me. 3.5/5 stars.

Ghosts of Alcatraz
by Troy Taylor
San Francisco Bay's barren Alcatraz Island, long nickname The Rock, was originally a fort and then served as a military prison from 1859 to 1934. With the arrival of social upheaval and rampant crime in the 1920s and '30s, the federal government chose Alcatraz as the perfect site for an escape-proof prison that would strike fear into the hearts of criminals thanks to the isolated location and the swift currents surrounding the island.

Tour If You Dare
In what is now a trend with old prisoners, the Wyoming State Penitentiary has become something of a tourist attraction. Public functions are held on its grounds and inside, including a bazaar and a Haunted Halloween Tour. Those interested can follow the paths of the damned al the way to the gas chamber.
Guides are always willing to share their experiences in the building, and while some of the stories may sound unbelievable, there are always corroborating witnesses, be they employees or strangers. Tours geared toward paranormal enthusiasts are best taken during one of the evenings of Halloween. But that hardly means that All Hallows Eve is the only time to experience something unexplainable. As the guides themselves will tell you, there's always something happening, and you never know when something will catch you out of the corner of your eye.

Old Wyoming State Penitentary
by Scott A. Johnson
Imagine yourself confined to a room five feet by seven feet with only a bare cot and toilet. Down the hallway, terrified screams and sadistic laughter echo throughout the night, reminding you that you live in what may be as well be described as one of Dante's lower circles of hell. You'll be all right, you tell yourself, so long as you keep to your tasks and don't make eye contact with anyone who lives nearby.
Spirits in Solitary
by Ellen Robson
In the town of Yuma, in the far southwest area of Arizona, the former Yuma Territorial Prison is perched high atop a rocky hill. From 1876, though 1909, the prison housed more than 3,000 prisoners. Overcrowding essentially closed it, and in 1909 its inmates were shackled together and transported to the prison in Florence, far to the east. The facility thereafter housed Yuma Union High School until 1914, and in 1920s hobos and bums took advantage of the empty cells for shelter. During the Depression, the building was used as a haven for homeless families.
California Dreaming?
by Scott A. Johnson
California has more than its share of ghostly residents, and, true to the West Coast way of life, many of them are stars from times past. While stories of the spirits of Marilyn Monroe and Howard Hughes are well known (these two legends have supposedly been glimpsed in dozens of locations), the state is home to places where the presence of spirits isn't merely a fabrication too boost the tourist trade. In fact, were these buildings left in their original condition, no sane tourist would set foot in them. And though such places usually get face-lifts, much like aging stars, their souls stick around. A case in point is Camarillo State Mental Hospital.
