Fandom Canon Character Reflection: What choice or opportunity would your canon character most want to explore, and how would it change the way they move through their story?

OC Analysis / Reflection: What does your character think about their past? Are they proud of their past actions? Do they regret much about their past?

I've been struggling with my main character's motivations and the lore about their past while editing this story. Haven't pinpointed why exactly so I guess this is a place for rambles while I try to work it out.

She (character) is very quiet about her past to others, not out of fear, but rather shame of what happened and what led her to be such a recluse. When she finally is confronted by her past, that guilt of not taking action (even though those actions would've killed her) makes her initially run away at the second chance.

The crux of my issue is how much that guilt will then propel her to act when she realizes running away won't do any good and she has to help in some way.

For context, the secondary character makes a rash decision and runs into danger without realizing it. His life is basically on the line. She goes after him, feeling guilty and also just annoyed because she promised someone she'd look after him, and also gets trapped. She's offered the chance to just leave, saving her own life.

Right now, she's considering offering herself up instead (it wouldn't actually happen, still) but that feels very out of nowhere in the story. But I also realized I don't have a pivotal moment for her in this particular section of the story either. It just all happens? She ends up burning everything down to save him which makes sense theme wise, I just don't like how sudden it feels too. This all is kind of reaction to her past, where she's really deciding to take charge and bring this secondary character home safe.

This movie is older than I am.

This movie is what gave me the passion and drive to write stories, and keep on writing whatever came to my mind and filled my heart with joy, the need to share.

Long after I'd forgotten the overall plot and premise of the movie, only remembering it to be 'the one with the girl who locked herself in her room and just ate snacks, to write a book that she let a kindly old man read first before anyone else, because his opinion was important to her'.

It took more than 15 years for me to finally find and watch the movie again. To re-learn its name.
