my weaving experience so far
so i started a weaving class thanks to my mom who co-teaches the class. i have wanted to learn how to weave for a long time cause I've seen the kind of stuff she makes and wanted to make some myself.
i must admit at first i was very intimated. not only cause I'm ADD and weaving looked very complicated but also cause i am currently the only guy in the class. so I felt very out of place thankfully everyone was in the class was very supportive of me.
thankfully i had some help setting up my loom for the first time. even though it was at times very tedious and I messed a couple of times i was surprised and how much time started to fly once I got in the groove of it. even more so when i finally got to the actual weaving part.
the best part of the class it that I've gotten to reconnect with a cousin whom i haven't seen since my uncles passing. getting to catch up with her has been so nice. now after several week of working my first project is mostly done other then a few final details.
not only has the class been fun but I learned a lot too. one of the teachers did a seminar of sorts on the history of weaving that among other thing talked about different types of weaving, efforts to preserve weaving patterns from around the world, and even how weaving was used as a form of protest by both India and by early America (for example i had no idea the circle in the Indian flag was a spinning wheel). all of this fascinates me and i hope to learn more.
overall I'm loving this class and highly recommend it if you have a chance to try it. also thanks for letting me ramble about this new hobby.
